By having these materials in my LEAP Personalized Learning classroom will make a major difference in student learning. In my middle school STEM LAB its a place where students' are learning how to apply the scientific method to life's everyday problems. I want my students to become inventors to solve some of the world problems in and outside of the classroom by taking charge of their learning with the foundation skills taught in class. Students will be able to demonstrate there learning in a variety ways using their choice boards. Student choice boards are created for student personalities and preference (skill mastery based), while wearing their new lab coats. I teach my students to use the context learned in class to be change agents in the community as well, teaching students to connect on solutions with their peers offers opportunity for collaboration; preparing them for the real world.
Students will also use technology to prepare them for the 21 century, by using headphones in class students an work at their own pace. Our Math and science specialty school mission is to nurture the whole child, and create life long learners. With the supplies from this donation students will be able to connect classroom scientific and mathematical context to the real world. There is a sense of affirmation when you dress the part, and for my students I know that by wearing safety goggles, and lab jackets in class with creating and performing the scientific process that students will retain the content taught in my class at higher rates.
