The STEM Swampshifters95 Shaping the Future
Funded Dec 3, 2019I want to first start with a big thank you to our donors. The students are using the new motors, batteries, and tires within their RC cars. The new 15T motors give the RC cars more power. The batteries gives more durability and race time. the tires gives more traction and durability.
When the students received the new materials they were static and eager to start using them. They immediately unpacked the boxes and started to use them right away.
Our next step is to compete at county level and place within the first or second place; this will enable us to qualify for Nationals which our team goal. With this help our students will be able to get to their destination.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Barreda
This classroom project was brought to life by An anonymous classroom supporter and 2 other donors.Stem Your Way to Robotics via RC Cars
Funded Feb 25, 2019First and foremost I want to thank DonorsChoose.org for giving my students this grate opportunity. My students are using these tools for the Stem projects. They have been able to build a new racing model thanks to the new motor and pinions.
My students were extremely grateful when they received the tools, motors, and pinions.
The next step is making a model car with our 3D printer and participating at nationals. The students are always striving to be the best that they can be when it comes to anything that is hands on technology.”

Chevron / Texaco Refuel: Computers Hold Our Children's Future!
Funded Oct 17, 2018Thanks to the generosity of Chevron/Texaco, each of my students in my computer class has been fortunate enough to have become a recipient of a Raspberry Pi or a Laptop. When they initially received it, given its compact size and portability, they doubted its potential. They soon learned how easily they were able to connect to the Internet and interface with many hardware components. Consequently, it increased their participation, challenged their interest and heightened their intellect in the robotics projects that we have worked on this year. They have used the Laptop for their STEM competition. They have been able to see first-hand how powerful the Raspberry Pi and have become mesmerized with its size, especially when it comes to running many of the robotics applications. When they needed to calculate speed for their motors, or inverse kinematics, they saw that the Raspberry Pi board was capable of doing all the heavy calculations. Thus, they expressed an eagerness to learn different programs such as Linux and Python.
Needless to say, my students have expressed such gratitude and acceptance of having this computer. They never thought that a computer this size could come close to the capabilities of a smartphone. All my students are so hyped about being able to use it in class that I had one student come up to me and pleaded to allow him to take it home. He said that he did not own a computer at home and wanted to further test its capabilities and performance. He expressed that his goal was to pursue a degree in programming or robotics – as this is the future. I have allowed him to take it home and he has come back to class the following day sharing information that he has found relating to its capabilities with his peers.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Barreda
This classroom project was brought to life by Chevron Fuel Your School.Chevron Refuel: App Your Way to Success.
Funded Oct 23, 2017I would like to thank Chevron for the laptops and tablets. My students are really excited to start their App with MIT Inventor and the HP Laptops. Without your generosity they would not have the opportunity to participate in this technology challenge. In addition to the challenge they would also use the laptops and tablets for their classwork and homework. like I said they are extremely eager to start their challenge and pass the AP computer test. Thank you again for making the difference in these students lives.”
With gratitude,
Mr. Barreda
