Children need to have the ability to move within the classroom setting and not be limited to being sedentary sitting at a desk all day. Getting moved to a different classroom unpacking and seeing everything makes me see the need is as great as ever! As our district starts to move into hybrid learning, we are preparing to receive our students with open arms- so to speak. But, this year when we see the sparkling eyes come into the classroom we won't have the groups of friends crowded in one area talking to each other, carpet time where students are all eager to learn and jumping up and down basically toppling over their friends to attempt to answer their question or even able to just walk around as easily as before. We must make sure we are keeping our children safe and healthy which means following safety guidelines of maintaining 6 feet of social distancing as much as possible. This means desks have been spaced apart to limit long periods of exposure to others. During a 'regular' school year, it can be hard enough to keep their little bodies in their own area. Having stand-up desks, wobble stools and bands can help keep students in the classroom, engaged, moving and keep them active- as children should be!! Active sitting is shown to help in improving sensory focus and awareness, engaged listening and participation within the classroom as well as improving posture and health. Our students are meant to be fidgety, moving, and not sitting still! Let's get them excited to be in the classroom and let them do that while also making sure that they are able to stay focused and engaged in the classroom! Thank you for taking the time to read through all this!
