I chose these items to place in my classroom sensory room. I primarily teach 3-5-year-old students with Autism, Developmental Delays, and Sensory Processing Disorder, My students have trouble integrating their sensory input ( touch, hearing, seeing, etc- this is the root cause of problems with development, the way they process information as well as student behavior, sensory rooms provide students a way to meet these needs for more learning to occur. When students become sensory overstimulated, this has a direct impact on their overall learning success and behavior. Sensory rooms give students a safe, and controlled outlet to explore, as well as a way to regulate their systems so they are better prepared to learn. I plan to utilize these items in the sensory room of my classroom to assist students to regulate their sensory input and bring a sense of calm to them when overstimulation of their senses occur. This empowers my students with coping mechanisms to get through their school day. I also have students in my classroom, that seek sensory stimulation to "wake" their senses. It is crucial that these sensory needs be met for any learning to take place. My students love exploring their classroom environment, and sensory rooms are one of their favorite areas to explore in the classroom. Students in my classroom will greatly appreciate any contributions you are led to sponsor for our classroom to create a sensory rich classroom to inspire their learning. Children naturally have an innate love of discovery, curiosity, and learning, and my curious, little students are no exception. Thank you for any support, and looking at our project.
