  • Record and Analyze in Order to Improve!

    Funded Aug 8, 2024

We are teaching a brand new athletic weights program in our school, which is led by one of our physical education teachers and myself, their coach. We use the tablet that was made possible with your support to record students lifting weights and then using that film to help them reflect and make changes to their lifting form. This is critical so that students can see what we are trying to describe. When lifting heavier weights, form is crucial so using the technology to help support their growth has been amazing to see!”

  • Vocab Games on Flexible Seating!

    Funded Aug 19, 2024

The vocab games have been a hit for our AVID students! Now when the students are getting a break from their work, they are playing Vocab games like Taboo and Boggle. Not only are they having a great time, but they are expanding their vocabulary at the same time. This has been a great way to build community, meet new friends, and have some fun during the school day. Not only did your support help us purchase games, but it also helped us purchase flexible seating, so that kids can just pull up a chair and meet new kids!”

  • Tablets for Film, Analysis, and Reflection!

    Funded Sep 24, 2023

Thank you for the tablets needed to record matches for our wrestling team! Being able to record matches allows our student-athletes to reflect, analyze and learn from their previous matches. This also allows our coaching staff to watch matches and learn from them. They can then bring that information to the team as a whole in terms of what is needed to learn as a program or on an individual basis. This also allows for families to watch matches in case they missed the long Saturday tournaments that our program has every weekend.”

  • Let's Get Moving... in the Classroom and Out!

    Funded Sep 1, 2023

Thank you for your support our physical education classes. The Fitbits have allowed our students to track their movement in order to reflect on their movement. This is so critical because COVID shut down our schools and limited people to staying inside. When people were forced to stay inside they tended to move less, which has caused our students to become more unhealthy. With the addition of Fitbits to the classroom, our students can see growth in their movement levels. When they see growth, they tend to continue to move more!”

  • Support Our Growing Team and the New Uniform Rule Change!

    Funded Mar 2, 2018

We are back in the school year and our offseason wrestling season is already two weeks in. We have seen some new faces in the wrestling gym, but have also seen some of our experienced wrestlers back in the gym, putting in work. Last spring we were honored to have so many people come together to help fulfill our team's DonorsChoose project. We were able to have Polos, t-shirts, fight shorts, sweatshirts and sweatpants donated to our team.

Up until this point we have had to put together a random collection of sweats and sweatshirts in order for our entire team to be wearing our team's colors, but now with this donation, we will show up to meets and tournaments dressed as a team.

The fight shorts and t-shirts will also allow us to expand our reach in recruiting. There was a change in the rules that allows wrestlers to wear fight shorts and a compression top, instead of the singlets that seem to deter many new wrestlers. We now have this uniform option and can expand our team.”

  • Supporting a Growing Team!

    Funded May 25, 2017

Our wrestling season does not officially start until November 2017, but our season got a little jump start with the donations we received. Before our summer camp began, we had over $2,000 worth of equipment dropped off in the wrestling gym that ranged from new shoes to exercise balls. The majority of the equipment will not be used until the season begins, but once the season does begin, it will be used to either help support our new wrestlers or help to push our more experienced wrestlers to the next level.

From the perspective of a coach, it is a huge relief knowing that we can support any new wrestler that walks in the door. Before we would have to share headgear or let students wrestle in socks, but now we have plenty of extra pairs of shoes and enough headgear for each wrestler to wear. Last year during practice we would do our best to conclude every practice with cardio and bodyweight exercise to help push our wrestlers to the next level. Now, we can expand that process even more by challenging our wrestlers using the battle rope, dip bars and exercise balls.

Our wrestlers were very curious when they noticed over 20 unopened boxes in the wrestling office, but they were even more excited to find out that our team would be able to spend more money on each wrestler now that we have the basic equipment needed to support a team.

Our program is very excited to start a new season coming up in November. We are going to build off of our success from last year and continue to push until we are competing with the best in the state.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Krueger

  • Reinventing the Health Curriculum: One Food Choice at a Time

    Funded Feb 17, 2017

Students were given different food or drink items every day for two weeks of classes. They were instructed to analyze the nutritional value of each and compare and contrast what is healthier. They seemed to enjoy the beef jerky day the best, because of the flavor of it, but they were also intrigued to taste two healthy energy drinks, Bai and Celsius, on the first day of unit. When we asked students what they remember most about the semester in health, the majority of them say "I liked it when we tasted the food and sipped the drinks"! Our idea was to not just have them taste food, but to also encourage them to choose these types of food when going to local stores during lunch. At the end of the unit, we asked students to fill out evaluations to see how likely they would pick these types of food. We learned that students would be willing to pick chewy bars instead of pop-tarts and drink Gatorade instead of soda. Mr. Krueger and Ms. Priest were more than satisfied with that outcome of the unit.

Our students were super excited and curious when they first saw the stack of drinks. When they started learning the routine, they would eagerly ask "what food are we tasting next class?"

We'll have new students next semester and even though we'll miss our former students, we're excited to do this unit again. We've discussed some revisions on how to make it better and one way is to have a lesson on micronutrients. We learned that students eat fruit occasionally due to the sugary taste but they are unaware of the nutritional benefits of fruit. They would eat fruit during class and examine the micronutrients contained in each type fruit. They would also examine health benefits of micronutrients that are found in other products besides food.”
