  • Inspirational Quotes Not Just for Decoration

    Funded Jul 31, 2021

Thank you so much for bringing these inspirational saying sign into my classroom. Being able to start the year with these inspirational signs up in the room has made all the difference. We started the year off by reading one sign each day and talking about what it meant to each student. Now that we have read all the signs we are using them as mantras. The most popular sign by far is "don't wait for the storm to pass ... learn to dance in the rain". The signs have been a fun and inspirational point of my classroom. Thank you for giving my classroom these amazing signs and inspiration.”

  • Whose Point of View Is It Anyway?

    Funded May 3, 2021

Understanding another persons point of view is a hard concept regardless of your age. In fifth grade we work on learning about different points of views. These books have helped our students see and understand the same topic from different perspectives. Students have been able to relate to characters in the book and make real world connections to a time "that" happened to them. In class now students refer to various books when they are trying to explain their point of view. "Remember in Memoirs of a Goldfish how the goldfish... " it is great to see the students make these connections in science and social studies.

Thank you so much for giving my students clear examples of different points of view and helping them master this difficult skill.”

  • Escaping Our Classroom

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

Escape rooms are always a huge hit in my classroom students love working together to find the answer and "escape the room" unfortunately with the COVID safety guidelines I didn't think we would be able to do our traditional escape rooms. Thanks to this project I was able to buy new escape rooms that were completely digital that students could do both at school and at home. Students were also able to Zoom with peers or through Google work on an escape room at the same time in the room while still maintaining social distancing. As the year went on the students found their grove with social distancing while completing escape rooms and even requested some topics to do more escape rooms. Escape rooms this year offered us a feel of normalcy while reviewing what we had learned in class.”

  • Standing up for Learning

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

This past school year teachers were told to teach while maintaining social distancing. For me this meant staying in a six by six foot corner of my room and teaching. It became clear never quickly that teaching from my desk was not going to work. The students had a hard time seeing me and I was having a hard time showing them documents through the document camera on my desk. Once the standing desk came in everything changed I was able to raise the document camera up to a height were I could use it and the students could see me. Having the standing desk also allowed me to easily teach all day because I was not having to stand up and sit down all day at the desk instead all the resources were at a ready height.”

  • What Do You Do on an iPad?

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

This year my students had iPads for the first time ever in the classroom. Thanks to the funding of this project we were able to buy fun virtual field trips to travel the world without leaving outer classroom. We were able to run movie theaters, build aquariums and haunted houses all through our new iPads. All of our projects helped us learn how to use the iPads. All of our projects aligned with what we were learning in class and gave the students a fun way to show what they have learned. In a year with so many safety regulations projects on the iPads allowed us to still have fun and learn.”

  • Real World Learning

    Funded Dec 2, 2020

This year my class took a trip to Mexico during Día de Muertos, we explored the rainforest, took a trip to Ireland for St. Patricks day and learned about Chinese New Year in Beijing. Maybe trip is to strong a word we explored all these places from home or in the classroom through project based learning activities bought on DonorsChoose. Project based learning also allowed my students to create their own amusement park designing the volume and perimeter of ever pool they used in the park. Students also had the opportunity to run their own movie theater through project based learning.

The students loved these hands on activities and they allowed the students to be creative and show individualism during a time that the world around them was changing rapidly.”

  • Helping the Teacher Teach

    Funded Jan 11, 2021

Thank you so much for making this school year amazing. Having an ergonomic desk area has most definitely made me a better teacher in a year where most of my teaching was done through technology. I am more attentive to my students needs because I am not thinking about how my wrist hurst from sitting on the edge of my laptop. Having ergonomic pads for the keyboard and mouse has been amazing. When I do have to teach online it has been nice to have a bluetooth keyboard and mouse so I am sitting up properly, helping me pay attention to my students better.

Having an ergonomic desk area has been the most revolutionary part of my school year and will be something that benefits my teaching for years to come. Thank you for all your support!”

  • Bringing Excitement to Distance Learning

    Funded May 6, 2020

Thank you for helping me adapt my teaching during this pandemic. Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards have helped me give my students new and exciting work at their learning level. I have been able to give my students both printed packets of work and digital copies of work based off their needs. Doing work at home has been stressful for many students, but with the TPT gift cards I was able to buy work that met their specific needs and help them continue to learn at home. I was also able to buy virtual field trips for students to continue to explore without having to leave their home.”

  • Surviving on TPT

    Funded May 6, 2020

Thank you so much for providing my class with work that meets their needs during this pandemic. Teacher Pay Teacher Gift Cards have allowed me to buy work that students can access via Google Classroom at home. Before students had to come to school and pick up a packet, buy having work on Google Classroom students can stay safe at home. The digital work also allows me to be able to correct work and give feedback to students faster than if they did the work on paper. Thank you for helping me adapt my teaching during the pandemic.”

  • Learning to Code

    Funded Jun 16, 2020

Thank you so much for giving me the ability to learn more about coding and experience a new coding platform. Besides learning more about coding I was able to talk and work with educators from around the world. Working with educators from around the world taught me more than just how to code it allowed me to learn about education and how students are taught in different cultures. It is always interesting to talk with educators outside of Maine to learn how they teach coding, not only did I walk away with new ideas to teach my students coding, but also a deeper understanding of coding. RoboGarden helped me learn how to code with Python in a way that was easy to understand and will be easy to explain to my students.

Thank you to everyone that helped me attend the Summer 2020 Pathfinders and the RoboGarden session. They were amazing and I highly recommend others attend Pathfinder.”

They are excited to teach each other, both in groups and in front of the class. My students are visual learners. They love to use different resources in the room to show learning strategies to their friends. The students are a great group of mathematicians, scientist, writers and artist.
