  • 1000 Words In One Picture

    Funded Nov 1, 2023

It was amazing opening the packages and watching my students' eyes light up. They immediately gravitated to the cameras and asked if they could take pictures with their friends. We took a few and posted them on the walls, increasing our sense of community with the class.

After a few weeks, students began asking if they could use the cameras to add pictures to their projects, whether it be our holiday door decorating, personal statements in advisory, or timelines in History, they were able to add more of a personal level to their work.

Thank you for helping us bring excitement to these students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Obillo

  • What Do You Stand For?

    Funded Nov 6, 2022

Thank you for supporting out project. I love the fact that students are getting excited to read. The topics in these books are accessible to all students. Lessons on self-empowerment, being unique, and resilience are reflected in these books.

The students are able to pick up and borrow the books to go home with them or to read when done with the current work.

I was really happy to see so many of English Language learners gravitate to these books. Having a high interest topic, like sports, coupled with the scaffold of a graphic novel, allowed a good access point for these students.

Thank you, again, for helping our classroom and our students.”

  • In Our Reality and Beyond

    Funded Jun 14, 2022

Thank you for your donation of our VR equipment. The impact of being able to help students learn about virtual reality, as well as graphing in 3D space is something that is observable on the surface. Another aspect, is seeing some of my more shy students reaching out and wanting to be a part of this experience. Some students that have barely spoken have really come out as leaders of bringing this technology into the classroom. I love watching them become the facilitators and seeing their confidence grow. Thank you again.”

  • Immediate Feedback Helps Us Grow Faster

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you for your contribution to our classroom. This technology has given me an "extra set of eyes" on the work of students, as I am able to quickly look at a whole class' work live. From this, I am able to give them immediate feedback that allows them to refine their attempts. By quickly giving them feedback, they focus on their growth. An old saying says, "Practice makes permanent." Rather than letting them continue their practice and growth incorrectly, I am able to drive them to where they need to be by prompting them in live time. Thank you so much for this donation!”

  • Interacting as Leaders

    Funded Nov 10, 2021

Thank you so much for your donation. I know how students gain confidence when they can share their work and thoughts with the class. This donation will allow students the chance to share in front of the class in a way that combines live interaction with their work that can be shared out. The precision of this board vs my current technology allows the students to focus on their work and ideas, rather than the technology issues my current board gives them. I know that they will be excited to be a large part of the learning of the classroom. Thank you for giving this opportunity to my students.”

  • It's Advisory Story Time!

    Funded Jan 11, 2021

I am so excited to have so many books to share with my students. I know that, every Friday, my students look forward to Advisory Story Time. We often miss so many themes and lessons from stories, but this time opens up so many things for discussion. By using accessible themes and morals, all of my students are able to join in the discussion and have a voice. I know this is a special time for my students, as they often tell me, after an absence, they couldn't miss story time. In these current times it's really important for them to have something to connect with and look forward to. Thank you again.”

  • Technology For All

    Funded Aug 26, 2020

Thank you for your kind donation. My students are super excited to have hands on science equipment that they can take home. As soon as I began explaining that they would get their own kit and get to keep it, there was a buzz. Eyes lit up and kids the wheels started turning in their heads.

Students have been given the opportunity to enjoy individual learning time during this odd time. They will get a chance to work with something that they may not have chance to, without having been given these kits. This will open their minds to new ideas and experiences.

Thank you again for giving our students a new opportunity. Have an amazing day.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Obillo

  • Our Robots are STEAMing Hot!

    Funded Dec 3, 2019

Our students have had a wonderful time building and coding the robot. They've worked together to build and troubleshoot the robot. It seemed like each person was able to contribute something different to the build.

I remember when they first saw the kit, they were really excited. I know some students had never seen something like this before. This experience has given them a chance to learn new things and be a part of a group. Some kids came out their shells as they joined in the development of the robot.

Currently, we are teaching and "coaching" the robot to throw a mini basketball. We will collect data and create new plans to make it as accurate as possible.

Thank you so much for helping unlock these experiences for our students.”

  • The Magic of Reading and Coding

    Funded Apr 19, 2019

Thank you for contributing to our classroom library and technology. Our students were really surprised when the packages arrived. It was like Christmas as they opened the boxes. To their surprise they found the books and coding wands.

It was awesome to watch the students' eye open wide when they saw the books. I love the fact that some of my more quiet and reserved students are asking to check out books. Not only do they get a chance to read something they love, but it also gives us common ground to talk. These connections give us a chance to lower their anxiety of approaching me with other questions, whether it be school work or life.

Watching the kids set up and figure out the coding wand was amazing. It's fun, but they are learning that coding isn't so overwhelming. I remember one of my students asking how she could learn more about coding after experimenting with the wand.

Thank you, again, for helping bring some magic to our classroom.”

  • Math Doesn't Have to Drone On

    Funded Jul 16, 2018

Thank you for your donations! I have recently started getting the materials and sharing with the class. The drone and other materials have sparked a lot of interest in my students. Getting to fly the drone and see the different views is becoming very exciting to my students. Not only are they learning about the physical world of their community in a different perspective, but the flying skills needed are teaching them about 3D graphing and spatial relations.

Many students have seen drones being used, but never been able to fly one. Having the power in their hands allows them to understand the different components to vectors and axis in 3 dimensions. The mounted camera is allowing the students to create more exciting presentations and projects. It also allows them to be able to create their newsletters using photos from different angles, allowing for more accessible views.

I remember showing my advisory class the drone early in the morning. Obviously a lot of the kids wanted to try it out, but I remember one, in particular. She's normally a quiet young lady. She does well in class, but kind of keeps to herself. She moved over to an empty desk to get a better view. I think this is the kind of thing that might bring her out of her shell a little. She really seemed like she wanted to learn more.

Thank you again for giving my students a new way to view their community and to learn about graphing in three dimensions. I'm sure these experiences will help some of them connect more to the curriculum. I feel some kids that would normally be turned off by normal book work will find better meaning and more accessibility .”
