My 6th grade students are energetic, adventurous and love to learn about the events and people that have shaped the USA. They learn about the major events and people of our past by analyzing primary sources like advertisements, journal entries, and political cartoons. They prefer to make up their own minds about events in our past, rather then take another historian's argument. Most recently, my students investigated General Sherman and decided if he was a war criminal or hero after his devastating March to the Sea. My students always amaze me with their willingness to discuss, debate, and investigate the events of past that continue to shape their future.
