  • Flashlight Reading in our Just Right Spots

    Funded Apr 24, 2023

You have turned daily reading into something much more. My students love to read, but having the new materials really instilled a greater love. Everyone wanted to have a try at reading on the beanbag. It was a great treat to choose each name to have them sit and read. Even my most active students were able to sit on it quietly and stay focused on reading. Other students had the choice to use the cushions. They sat on it, used it as a head rest, and even to support their arms as they read on their stomachs. The important fact was that they were all reading.

Fridays were even more special because they were able to use their headlamps to read in the "dark." Readers found their cozy spots and once the lights were turned off, the click of the lamps could be heard. It's amazing to see how quickly they settled into reading.

The bands allowed the active students to move their body freely as needed without distracting other readers. Reading time is something the students do not want to miss. Thank you for your generous donations that have greatly impacted the readers in the class.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Park

  • Summer Reading Fun

    Funded Jun 21, 2022

The students and I want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for the generous donations to our class. The students were extremely excited to pick out books for them to keep. The students took their time, choosing books that were just right for them. They utilized the strategies they learned in class, to choose books they were interested in and could read. There was plenty to choose from, thanks to your generosity.

After selecting their books, the students immediately went to their comfortable reading spots and began reading. The only noise I heard were sounds of the pages turning. They also had the opportunity to share what they read so far after reading time was over. There was plenty of excitement as they began to share with each other. They were thrilled to pack up their books in their backpack to take home.

Our class is grateful for donors like you. Thank you for putting books into the students' hands and allowing them to keep these treasures.”

    With gratitude,

  • Take Us to the 21st Century with Chromebooks

    Funded Dec 17, 2014

Thank you so much for your generous donations. It was Christmas in March, as I opened each box and showed the students the new Chromebooks. Their faces lit up as I passed them to each student. They were so surprised at how quickly they turned on and how light they were.

The students have started using the Chromebooks to do research. Because of the addition of the new computers to our class, more students have access to go online and research. They have also been able to log on to a math program we use at our school. Again, more computers, more access for students. They don't have to wait too long to get their turn. The students are learning how to use Google Docs and collaborating with each other in real time as they create shared writing pieces.

As teachers, we are always learning. Because of the new technology in the classroom, I am evolving as a teacher and finding new ways to make learning more fun. There are various applications and tools that students can use to learn and to show me what and how they are learning. Students are excited to create slide shows on topics they are learning about and presenting to the class. Students are becoming more active learners and initiating their learning through the new technology.

The students and I are grateful that we have received the Chromebooks. Thank you for allowing us to better meet the standards through the use of our new technology in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Park

  • Exercising Body and Mind

    Funded Nov 12, 2012

The students and I would like to thank you for your generous donation. Through the use of the new equipments, the students have learned to set, volley, and serve. They are learning new tricks with the jump ropes. They are building core strength with the balance beams, and learning to dribble, pass, and shoot a basketball.

For many of my students this is the first opportunity they have had handling many of the different equipment you have helped to purchase for my students. These sports equipments have not only given them access to try out new sports but have also developed better coordination. They have also found a new love of exercise. I have also seen a rise in their self esteem. I have many students who struggle academically, but when it's time for P.E., they have found something that they can find success in.

The new equipment has definitely made a positive impact on the physical and emotional well being of my students.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Park

  • "Just Right" Reading Environment

    Funded Feb 9, 2012

Thank you so much for your generous donations. The students were so excited to receive the new materials for our classroom.

We now have a place to put more books out for the students. The rolling cart saves much needed space for the classroom. The cart also serves as a "moving library", where each table gets to keep the cart for the day and browse through the many books.

The students rush to the class library during reading time because they want to sit on the bean bags. Even after weeks of having the bags in the class, there is always a rush to sit or lean against the beloved chairs. I have more kids wanting to sit in the library and read because of the bean bags.

The students and I can't thank you enough for allowing us to receive the materials. It has truly brought more love for reading. It has also allowed the students to see that there are people who care. Not only have you given your time and money, you have given each student a gift of hope.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Park

My students are fourth graders attending a title I school. All students receive free lunch and are socio-economically challenged. Despite hardships, they come to school with a positive attitude and are eager to learn and succeed. The surrounding neighborhood is made up of warehouses and commercial buildings. Our school is special because it has special ed. students as well as general ed. students. Most teachers have some type of integration between the two. My students help the moderate to severely disabled class during their physical exercise time. It is a public school in CA.
