Building Socially and Emotionally Resilient Learners
Funded Jan 12, 2023Thank you so much for your generous donation to my counseling classroom! My students have loved the additions to our calm corner, especially the teddy bear, breathing ball, and breathing boards. The breathing ball and the breathing boards have been invaluable in helping encourage students to take deep breaths and have given them a tool to focus on and practice their breathing with.
Additionally, the books offer powerful lessons about inclusivity, meditation, and grief and provide social stories that my students can relate to and learn from.
We so appreciate your donation and your contribution to building socially and emotionally resilient learners at PS 176!”

Building Socially and Emotionally Resilient Learners With Games
Funded Nov 27, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation to my counseling classroom! My students have loved the games, especially the social skills games. They have been a motivating incentive to encourage students to complete our counseling activity so they can earn free time to play a game. It has been so incredible to see students engage in cooperative learning and play together as they work together to learn the games. The games also encourage positive thinking, impulse control, and managing anger.
With the TeachersPayTeachers giftcard, I was able to purchase the Learning From Mistakes Repair Plan, which has been so helpful for students who have made a mistake. The interactive pages encourage students to reflect on what happened, how they felt, who else was affected, the consequences they faced, and the steps they can take to repair the situation. These are valuable problem solving tools!
We so appreciate your donation and your contribution to building socially and emotionally resilient learners at PS 176!”

Building Socially and Emotionally Resilient Learners With Books, Games, Crafts
Funded Aug 16, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation to my counseling classroom! The Calm Corner I created with materials from this project has been very helpful for offering students a safe and supportive environment to self-regulate when needed. Students have loved the new books! "You Are Enough" has been a favorite book to help a student feel more included and celebrate what makes her different and special, and "Ahn's Anger" has helped another student realize that it's okay to feel angry and learn that taking deep breaths can help him calm down. The crafts have also been a great way to engage with students and help them create tangible tools they can use in their own classrooms to calm down and manage big feelings they get throughout the day.
We so appreciate your donation and your contribution to building socially and emotionally resilient learners at PS 176!”

Building Socially and Emotionally Resilient Learners
Funded Aug 21, 2022Thank you so much for your generous donation to my counseling classroom! My students have loved the games, especially the social skills games. They have been a motivating incentive to encourage students to complete our counseling activity so they can earn free time to play a game. It has been so incredible to see students engage in cooperative learning and play together as they work together to learn the games. The games also encourage students to identify different feelings and associate different experiences with different feelings. The games help students engage in perspective taking during which they imagine how another character might be feeling.
The clay was also a big hit! Students created their own gratitude stones they can use to help them remember all they have to be grateful for. Students also created a gratitude journal to go along with their gratitude stones. My students were so excited that they created their very own stones and couldn't wait for them to dry to take them home. They also enjoyed looking at their classmates' creations.
Finally, the beads were also very popular with my students, so much so that I started receiving requests from other students who wanted to bead. With the beads, students created their own fidget toys that they can use as a calming tool to self-regulate.
