  • High Tech/ Low Tech Environment

    Funded May 11, 2024

I hope this letter finds you well. On behalf of myself and my students, I wanted to extend our heartfelt thanks for your generous donation that allowed our class to receive a document camera, headphones, snacks, books, and pencils. Your support means so much to us.

The document camera and headphones will greatly enhance our students' learning experience by providing them with the necessary tools for focused and effective study sessions. The snacks will be a welcome treat, helping to keep our students energized and engaged throughout the day. The books you donated, which one of our students has already read and enjoyed, will undoubtedly inspire a love of reading in others. And the pencils will be a practical addition to our classroom supplies, aiding in countless activities.”

  • Structured Learning Systems at Work

    Funded Oct 11, 2023

Thank you for your kindness and donations! You have made a difference. Establishing workstations and break/leisure systems allowed students to take charge of their learning and made independent choices. Students set individual timers, and focused on the work. Students made choices of working towards a reward, such as jolly ranchers, mints, fidgets, chips, snacks or center time.

I have noticed amazing differences in my students when they were given a choice of rewards or reminding them to self-regulate with timers. I have seen how choice, routines, and structures can positively affect my students' work and demeanor.”

  • Social Emotional Tools for Teens

    Funded Dec 25, 2022

During our social skills class, home room and study lab, my classes learn about feelings and how to cope with challenges. We are using the books for fun activities to learn about emotions and coping skills. We have used the dice for discussions. The students had fun and loved manipulating the dice and were 100% engaged.

The students love the claw game as an incentive. They were so excited when they saw it. I have seen some grades improve with incentives. Students are learning and improving their positive social emotional well being in our classroom. The fidgets have been used to decrease stress and focus on socials emotional health as well as academics.

Thank you for your support and donations.

    Sincerely,

    Natalie Marsh”

  • Reading and Writing Made Fun

    Funded Nov 17, 2022

It's been awesome seeing my students express themselves on paper with words or illustrations and during activities. They are less distracted, more focused, and more motivated. They are happy to see and use the books. Honestly, daily, I heard I can't read, but since receiving the materials, and using them; I have only heard those words once or twice a month. They happily use the clear plastic paper holders, markers, erasers, and mirrors, which we store in the clear plastic boxes. My assistant and I have been most amazed by the hole punch to produce books for our spelling and vocabulary words organized in folders or binders.

Thank you for donating to our project, and providing much needed materials so students focus and improve their academic achievement with fun activities. The scented markers on lined or unlined paper are awesome, much requested tools. Words cannot express our thanks for materials to empower students to work in a group or independently, plus a few incentives. Thank you for supporting our active, happy class as we continue our life long learning.”

  • Ear Ye, Ear Ye: We Need Headphones!

    Funded Feb 14, 2022

The headphones have decreased student anxiety. We have taped names to the headphones so not only are we reducing the noise in the placeroom, students each have headphones and they feel confident completing academic activities that pair text to voice.

Students love the quality of the head phones. Students play games and listen to videos using the headphones. I have several students who use the head phones daily. Some keep them with themselves all day as they learn in a variety of content area classrooms.

The students and I cannot thank you enough for the headphones that pair text to voice, transfer music or allow student to watch videos and enjoy the sound. Thank you!”

  • Diverse Books for Social Emotional Health Activities

    Funded Aug 5, 2021

After reading " Uniquely Wired: A Story About Autism and Its Gifts." Students, asked questions and made personal connections to the text. Even a month later students were still making personal connections. To hear the words "remember when you read ... does it mean..," shows students did more than listen, it means they internalized. They also thought about actions such as empathy or kindness as being everyday super powers. Students liked listening as I read. More than listening happened.

Students have asked to take the books home. I have students tell me they do not like to read or that are not readers and to see them with books in their hands or on their desks is simply amazing! More than reading is happening.

I use the five point system book weekly. One of my supervisors said I need the book to help my students improve behaviors and social skills. I proudly said I already had the book and was using it. I have seen positive changes in attitudes and behaviors as students make connections. Books are powerful tools to promote student growth. Thank you for your kindness. Our class is growing socially and emotionally because of your generosity.”

  • Inclusive Reading and Writing Activities for Teens With Autism

    Funded May 26, 2021

Having books that teach students how to work together rather than be divided by racism is valuable in the classroom. The students have started reading Night Diary. When give a choice of activities students asked to read their book. Its wonderful to see students reading silently then using knowledge from the core classes to have meaningful discussions.

In World Cultures children learned about various religions and places in the world. Students were able to identify changes in the characters and discuss how different students began socially separating themselves into groups based on religions.

Over the summer students will continue reading the book and when they come back in the fall, we will use other materials to create our own diaries. Students will also participate in group activities and become racially aware of ways to use empathy rather than hate. Students will also learn about themselves and see that being different is a gift. Receiving the gift of these books, diaries, and stylist pens is so amazing. Thank you so much for giving to my students. They are already excited about reading as they get ready for the summer and this is a great way to kick off the new school year of 2021-22.”

  • Reduce COVID 19 Anxiety with Books & Activities

    Funded Jun 15, 2020

Thank you for the books and manipulatives. I used them to teach students with autism. They enjoyed the variety of activities. They know when we go back to campus that the manipulatives will be their and ready for the students to use during lessons or during leisure time so students may reduce anxiety. Students enjoyed using different approaches to learning in a virtual setting. I will be using the materials in the fall to help students feel comfortable during the pandemic and this challenging time!”

  • Tablets Bring Information to Our Finger Tips

    Funded Mar 7, 2020

Technology has really helped my students research topics and use different applications. We have used our tablets to learn about social skills. We have watched short videos. Some students use them to listen to music during and after completing work.

The students love the tablets because while they are small, the screens are big enough to see different websites or play educational games. The students can also move with them to relax in different spots in the room.

I have students who rarely talk, open up and use their words, after watching short videos to focus social skills instruction. Students love to use the tablet. One student really enjoys using it when her work is done to listen to music videos. The tablet motivates her!”

My ten students in our Structured Learning Class (SLC) have big hearts and work harder than most students. Their autism creates cognitive delays. They would benefit from being able to use multisensory supplies, basic supplies, leveled books, and tangible rewards. It motivates them. These supplies may also be used with my class of 19 study lab students who also have identified disabilities but not autism. Multisensory approaches to learning help students who want to learn like my students do.
