Enrich a High School with Culturally Rich Novels!
Funded Mar 13, 2012This is just a small token of my
gratitude for your generous donation to my English classroom. The beautiful new novels have arrived
and will be put to use in the coming weeks in my classroom. Your donation provided us with new class
sets of Walter Dean Meyers' Fallen Angels, Jeanne Wakatsuki Houston's Farewell to Manzanar and
Sherri Smith's Flygirl. These novels will be used in our
year-long 10th grade interdisciplinary study, "Why War?" They provide a more diverse perspective
of ware's impact for our students, address issues of women during wartime, the internment
of Japanese Americans during WWII and the service of minority soldiers in the
Vietnam War.
Thank you for investing in our
students' literacy. Because of serious cuts to our school budget, generous
donations like yours help to keep providing culturally relevant books for our
students. The books will be used by 150 students this year and many more in
years to come. Your donation has and
will continue to make an significant and lasting impact. I cannot thank you
enough for your generosity.”

Bring the Gift of Music to an Inner City High School!
Funded Mar 18, 2012This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom and guitar club. The music supplies and microphones you donated have already begun to make their impact in the lives of my students. We've used the new guitar strings to fix up old guitars. We've also used the tuners and picks in our weekly guitar club, and we're continuing to learn new songs, exposing our students to different types of music. The most exciting part is that with the USB microphones you provided, we now have students recording original songs they've written! We've also put on five performances this year for families and other students. The success of our guitar club is even reaching other nearby high schools and we have six students from two other schools coming weekly to learn music.
Because of serious cuts to our school budgets, generous donations like yours help to keep the arts alive in our school. We are able to provide a guitar elective class and an after-school guitar club. Together, we've been able to reach over seventy students this year, touching three different inner-city high schools. Many have said that this is the first time they've had the opportunity to play music in their lives. As we continue to build our program next year, your donation will continue to make an significant and lasting impact. I cannot thank you enough for your generosity. Your gift is bringing song to our city. ”
