  • Stop Motion Animation Kits for Future Movie Makers!

    Funded Oct 3, 2018

I cannot begin to thank you for the kind and generous donation that you made to me and my students! The Lego Make Your Own Movie kits have been a wonderful addition to our technology lab here at Stephen Decatur School! Stop motion animation is something we are really interested in creating and now we have the proper materials to do so.

When I told my students that our Donors Choose project was funded, they were thrilled! My classes cheered loudly and everyone had smiles on their faces! Many of my students love working with Legos and they really love technology class! Combining the two together to create exciting videos is such an exciting project! Because we have six kits to work with, I am able break my students up into manageable sized cooperative groups. Each of the groups is working on writing unique stories based on the Lego characters, backgrounds, and accessories that are now available to them. They use cameras to take still photos of the designs created that are related to their story lines, then eventually all the photos will be added to video editing software, where their photos will become stop motion animation movies.

Watching my students' ideas come to life is so rewarding, and I have YOU to thank for that! So thank you again from the bottom of my heart!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Solis

  • Headphones Needed for Students in Computer Class!

    Funded Nov 21, 2016

Thank you for your generosity! The headphones that you donated to the computer lab at Stephen Decatur School have been extremely helpful!

In the past, students did not have headphones to use in the lab. It was extremely noisy and very difficult to hear the programs that they were working on. It was especially challenging for the students who were creating music and videos, as it was essential to hear what they were doing. Now all that has been resolved because all of my students have quality, working headphones at their computers. It has been wonderful!

Your kindness has gone a long way with the students at Stephen Decatur School! I teach over 600 students per year, so many students have been positively affected by your generous donation. Thank you again for helping us!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Solis

All of my students in grades K through 8 will benefit from a class set of headphones. My younger students utilize the computer lab by working on interactive educational programs (mainly covering literacy and math skills) in which they need to be able to hear directions in order to complete the activities. Currently we do not have any headphones in the lab, so when 30 students are working on the same program at once, it's extremely difficult to hear the directions that each is being given. Older students typically work on various applications, often creating slideshows and movies in which they need to be able to hear the music, sound effects, and voiceovers that they are including in their projects. Without headphones, students are having a difficult time concentrating on their own work. Having a set of headphones for every computer in the lab will help all of my students tremendously!
