Fostering "21st Century" Students
Funded Feb 26, 2013I want to thank you so much for your generous donation. The camera, tablet and rubberband dragster kits have made it possible for my students to enhance their "engineering" skills and become "21st century" learners.
It was wonderful to see the excitement on their faces, and hear their exclamations of "when can we start using them!?" My students have been able to use the tablet and camera to capture each other's moments of learning. They were able to work on their STEM and Science projects by filming each other's presentations and taking pictures. In addition, some of my students were able to "check out" the tablet and camera to use on their own expeditions and field trips as part of their STEM and Science learning. I have to also mention that this really enabled them to take more ownership of their learning, and make them more responsible.
The rubberband dragster kits gave them the opportunity to work collaboratively putting the "cars" together and using vital "engineering" skills such as designing, building and problem solving. This has made it possible for them to enter the new framework on science learning occurring currently in our world.
Thank you once again for making this possible for my kids and future students!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Gomez
A New Way of "Looking" at Science
Funded Apr 1, 2010I am truly inspired by donors like you who sincerely care about having children learn and become excited about what they're learning. As my students opened up their materials, ready to put them to use, I became overwhelmed with emotion, watching their faces full of anticipation. Needless to say, their "oohs and aah's" further contributed to my own excitement. Because of your generous donation, the laptops will provide the students with the means of communicating with their younger peers (nature buddies) via the webcam. How awesome is that, that children in another classroom will be able to "see Science" in a whole new way, right before their very eyes, being demonstrated by their older peers? The laptops will serve as tools to empower them to take ownership of their learning. In addition, because of your thoughtfulness, they are no longer competitors with other students who have advance technology to assist them in achieving knowledge. Instead, they now can use this technology to share with others their excitement over Science and what they are learning in class. Thank you so much for your generosity and sincere desire in helping my students achieve and increase their love for Science learning. I am truly grateful!”

Ms. Gomez
This classroom project was brought to life by JP Morgan Chase Foundation and 2 other donors."Nature Buddies"
Funded Mar 1, 2009I just wanted to let you know what an impact your donation has made on my students' learning, as well as, their enthusiasm over "Nature Buddies". The journals and pencils have provided my students with their buddies the opportunity to experience first-hand taking notes and recording observations just like "real" scientists. I use the camera to take pictures while my students are observing nature, as well as, performing activities in the classroom. Actually, one of the activities my students did in class was taken from one of the books donated, "Science Adventures", which has different nature activities for young students. This investigation had the "nature buddies" looking firsthand at plant, animal and insect cells using a hand-lens and microscope. The students were so excited and thrilled to "see" with their own eyes the wonderful world of bugs and plant life through a lens. In addition, the camera lets me "catch" the moments of awe and discovery. I cannot emphasize enough how grateful we all are for people and organizations like yours that take time to show you care through the help you have given us. We look forward to continuing the remainder of the year, and future years, using the materials provided through your generosity. I know that because of your thoughtfulness, "Nature Buddies" will continue to inspire young students to revere nature, promote inquiry, and enhance their social skills with others. From the bottom of my heart, thank you once again.
