Protecting our Kindles
Funded May 26, 2016Thank you very much for your generosity. These cases for our Kindles will make them last so much longer and the kids think they look pretty cool too. They will be so excited to see that their project was completely funded. I can't wait to tell them! You have made a world of difference to my students and I can't thank you enough!”

Funded Mar 10, 2016Thank you very much for your generous donation! I can't wait to share the great news with my students. They will be thrilled to receive these e-readers and most importantly, it will inspire them to READ!
I can't thank you enough. I know it is always such a blessing to know that people care about and support public education. Getting a project funded also reinvigorates my sense of purpose and helps me rededicate myself to my students and the families that I serve.”

Funded Sep 15, 2014What a wonderful surprise to wake up to a FUNDED project! I can't wait to share the news with my students this afternoon. Your generosity will contribute towards creating a generation of ocean stewards and responsible citizens. The books you helped me fund are high interest and non-fiction, which are perfect for reluctant readers. Your gift makes literacy relevant in the lives of my students. I will be the envy of all of the other teachers on campus! Thank you very much!”

Marine Biology (part 3) and Biology Dissection Specimens
Funded Feb 18, 2014I would like to thank you for your generous donation to my classroom projects. My students had an amazing time learning about the physiology of marine organisms. It always surprises me at the reaction of the students. I wanted to share with you some of the comments I heard throughout the dissection experience:
Many students made this remark: "Wow, I feel like a scholar when I wear the white lab coats."
One student speaking to another: "From now on, you should address me as Dr. _____."
The boost in self-esteem was apparent in the way students behaved when they wore the lab coats. The lab coats were purchased through DonorsChoose on a previous project and I wanted them specifically for this purpose. (Thank you again DonorsChoose!)
One student speaking to another: "You are pretty good at recognizing body structures. Have you every thought about becoming a veterinarian?"
I appreciated that this student recognized a strength in another student and immediately relayed that into a career in science.
Many students made this remark: "I think I could be a surgeon."
I loved that students imagined themselves in a science career in the future.
Many students made this remark: "The smell isn't that bad."
Other students said: "The smell is worse than I thought."
Some students said: "If I study science in college, does that mean I get to keep doing this?"
Dissections are typically an experience that students feel ambivalent about. They are excited but nervous at the same time. However, I loved that this student enjoyed this experience and I know that this may have been the determining factor in propelling a student into the field of science.
We dissected all of the organisms throughout a three-week time span and the students worked on a comparative anatomy project throughout to get students to really look at the differences and similarities between the organisms. I think its important to point out that my classroom was the talk of the school throughout this process. I had students that I didn't know specifically ask for a bathroom pass so they can just look inside my classroom and see what my students were up to.
I just wanted you to know how valuable this experience is for many students and thank you again for your generosity. You are a hero. ⺔

Land Ho, Captain!
Funded May 11, 2013I would like to thank you again for the wonderful marine biology materials I was able to receive through your donation. The students had a great time learning about marine navigation using a sextant and we plan on taking the sextants and the binoculars on an upcoming boat trip. In addition, we played the "Game of Ocean" to recap our unit on oceanography and the students had a wonderful time. It was helpful for my students to see the same material reinforced through a game that someone on the "outside" created. It also helped me identify areas of weakness that I plan to improve upon before the end of the year is over. Thank you for your kindness and generosity. It is appreciated. I wish you all a happy new year!”

Density and the Ocean
Funded Mar 13, 2013My students and I were so excited when we received the materials for this density project that we took a short break from the days lesson to play with them immediately. Later, we used the density blocks, cylinders, and the wave tank to discuss the differences between density, mass, and weight. In my marine biology class, we were also able to discuss the interaction between density and pressure when an object moves up an down the water column.
Density is typically a difficult concept to grasp but I think my students have a greater understanding because of the materials you helped us purchase. I shared these materials with my fellow teachers so I'd like you to know that your donation made an even bigger impact than what was stated in the original DonorsChoose proposal. Thank you very much!”

Doctor Doctor
Funded Feb 1, 2013I would like to thank you for donating to my project to purchase lab coats for my students. My students are always so excited to wear the lab coats â but especially when we are doing labs that require multiple days like dissections (in the images I uploaded). Many of them say they feel important, professional, and smart. The others that don't comment just beam with pride and I can tell they feel the same when they start taking pictures of themselves on their cell phones. I even heard a student say that he was going to upload the picture of him wearing the lab coat onto his profile on Facebook. The lab coats are so insignificant to me but to my students, there is a difference in motivation for lab days. Thank you for helping my students envision a different future for themselves.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Garcia
