  • Classroom iPad

    Funded Sep 25, 2013

My class was very excited when the iPad arrived in our classroom. Some of the students have used an iPad before, some of them have not. I have not used one, so the kids with know-how showed me how to set it up. They also demonstrated all sorts of tips and tricks for using the iPad.

We were able to download educational apps and my students were able to get going using math apps and reading apps for ebooks. We were also able to use the camera for class photo projects. We are very much looking forward to using it for our upcoming hurricane project where we hope to use a green screen to make short newsroom-like video clips.

The students enjoy using new technology that they are already familiar with and they love exploring the different apps that I have found for them. The iPad is a great addition to our classroom. Thank-you for your donation.”

  • Chromebooks for the Classroom

    Funded Sep 13, 2013

My students let out a loud cheer when our three new Chromebooks arrived at our school. I are thrilled to add them to our classroom and the students are always eager to get their turn at using them at various times throughout the day.

They are put to daily use as we access various websites to practice spelling, math, and to do classroom research. The students are also learning how to use the various Google tools and Google Drive in order to create and save work.

The Chromebooks are an excellent technology tool that helps benefit my students as they become 21st Century learners. I am pleased to pioneer their usefulness in a classroom in our district and I just as pleased by the student response to using them.”

  • Chromebooks for Classroom Blogging

    Funded Dec 20, 2012

This is just a small token of appreciation for your generous donations to our classroom. We were able to purchase five Samsung Chromebooks for our classroom. The students and I are thrilled to have these laptops in our classroom and are putting them to a good and steady use. We can use them at any time to complete classwork, use websites related to lessons, and to learn how to create and show our work and thinking through blogs. Every student has started their own blog already.

I am particularly grateful that parents and friends took up the challenge to donate for the Chromebooks at such a quick notice and that you were able to donate within the short timeframe so that the Donors Choose Board of Directors matched the donations.

    Thank-you again.”

  • Hugo Cabret And Wonderstruck: Reading With Brian Selznick

    Funded May 17, 2012

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The multiple copies of the Brian Selznick books, "The Invention of Hugo Cabret" and "Wonderstruck" that you have donated will ensure that my students continue their love and appreciation for good literature. These books seem to capture the imaginations of my students and they thoroughly enjoy reading them and going back to reread them again.

It is a great thing when students become engrossed in the experience of reading a book and now my students can continue doing that as a shared experience with their classmates.

Thank-you again for suppporting my students and their love of reading.”

  • Classroom Camera for Digital Storytelling

    Funded Aug 31, 2011

I would like to express my gratitude for your generous donation to my class for a digital camera. The camera is a welcome addition to the work that my students do in the classroom. We document a lot of our work and activities throughout the year and create presentations that showcase student creativity and growth. Each student has already used the camera to complete two projects. I have also been able to instruct students in the proper use of the camera as well as how to frame a photograph. They enjoy the hands-on nature of taking a good picture as well as using their pictures in computer presentations to share with their classmates and families. Thank-you for your contribution so that we could obtain such a useful classroom tool.”

  • Classroom Poetry Writing Using Classic Poems As Models

    Funded Jul 31, 2011

I would like to express my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The donation to help buy multiple copies of "Love that Dog" and "Hate that Cat" as well as the audio versions of each book has allowed me to further expand upon previous year's lessons. My students love listening to the book together as a class, but they were even more enthusiastic this year when they got to follow along in a copy of the book. After reading "Love that Dog" they were able to write poetry modeled on some of the classic poems presented the book. Next they created "digital poetry" by adding photographs and music to create a video to showcase their poem. I look forward to doing a similar activity with "Hate that Cat" later in the year.”

  • We Love Classroom Jeopardy

    Funded Mar 2, 2011

My class was very excited to receive the 5 Classroom Jeopardy cartridges. We have a ton of fun playing Classroom Jeopardy together and it is wonderful to finally have the games for our grade level. The class is always enthusiastic when they get to review material using this familiar television game show format. Even thought they don't win real money, the competition is friendly and fierce.

As a teacher I like to see my class thoroughly engaged with learning. Reviewing material is not always fun, but when we review grade level subjects with the Classroom Jeopardy game, the interest level is very high. As host of the game, I can stop and clarify information presented in the game if it needs a quick reteaching or if I need to explain something further. At times the Jeopardy questions and answers turn into quick mini-lessons.

I believe that playing Classroom Jeopardy with my students help them remain enthusiastic learners. It also helps prepare them for the important state tests in a fun and familiar game show fashion. The students do not even know that they are reviewing and learning. They just think that they are having fun. Thank you for helping to make the learning environment in my class more engaging and fun.”

I teach grade 5 in a public school classroom. Currently there are 23 students in the class. It is a happy class full of children who enjoy learning and each other. They enjoy being creative and aspire to do their best at school. The children come from a variety of backgrounds, but it is mostly middle class although our school qualifies as a moderate poverty school.
