It is important to have a "tool box" of creative ideas when working with students, especially students who have higher needs. I have spent time playing connect four, jenga, cards, drawing, hangman, basketball, chatting while using a fidget, playdough, etc. It helps in being able to take their minds off of whatever is bothering them and allows us (or other supports with them) to have exciting ways to help build positive relationships. While I am able to be successful helping to support without any tangible items, it will be so nice to have some other options to offer when students need to take breaks during their school day.
