"I want to attend Harvard" and "I want to stay in the state," my students mentioned when I ask what they want to do after high school. My students definitely hold a wide plethora of goals, and the more Spanish they learn, the more confident they feel using the language. Students currently ask me what many Spanish words mean, and I want to partner with them to ensure they can speak fluidly by the end of the year. My students attend a high need, rural, mostly African American school in Mississippi. Typically, they have few opportunities to travel and learn about new cultures. I give them the skills and tools necessary to learn about Hispanic culture. We have already learned at least three hundred Spanish vocabulary words comprehensibly, and students yearn to remember the language.
