  • Kindergartners Can Program Too!

    Funded May 26, 2019

My students absolutely ADORED these coding mice. They were so excited to explore the materials, help me organize them, get everything ready, even before learning how to play.

It was amazing to see their minds working everytime they made a mistake. The goal is to get the mouse through the maze to the cheese, but you have to plan it out ahead of time. It was awesome to see their eyes light up as they saw the mouse turn away from the cheese and they realized what step they missed or needed to fix for the next round.

My kids beg to play with these everyday. Kids from other classrooms come in and ask to play the mouse maze game!

Teachers will be getting a tutorial in the new year so that they can introduce their students to the nice as well. The best part is seeing the students who usually lack motivation and drive get excited about the mistakes they made because they're excited to try the next step to make it right!

Such an amazing time, I wish every classroom had access to these!!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cappello

  • Motivating Kindergarten Readers with Non-Fiction Texts!

    Funded May 20, 2019

These non-fiction books have been such an asset to our classroom library! Every student builds up their reading stamina at the beginning of the year and are so excited to keep reading everyday but then they get bored looking at the same books over and over.

These non-fiction books have made the students thrilled to read and learn each day. Not only are they able to learn from the photographs but because they are leveled readers, many students are even able to read them independently.

My only wish is that I could triple the books as the students always want to read them all at once! We have to have a rotation in place so all the students have a chance to read these fun new books!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Cappello

Kindergarten is filled with eager young minds who are so excited to learn, but who have all come from a variety of different backgrounds and experiences. This makes each child's kindergarten learning experience unique. Differentiating lesson plans to meet each student's unique needs can be time-consuming, but the excitement in their eyes when they learn something new makes it all worth it! The first time a kindergarten student reads a book they are so excited and amazed that they are actually reading like grown ups! Most students want to read one book after another and guess what they usually choose? Non-fiction books! I would love to provide more non-fiction texts in our leveled classroom library so that each student, no matter what their background experiences are, feel excited and independent when choosing a high-interest book!
