  • Upgrade and Expand

    Funded Mar 20, 2023

We are thrilled to share the exciting news that our Donors Choose project for our esports team has been successfully funded, thanks to your generous contribution! Your support means the world to us and will make a significant impact on the success of our team.

Esports is a rapidly growing field, and your donation towards a gaming laptop, mouse, and headphones will provide our team with the essential tools needed to compete at the highest level. The gaming laptop, in particular, will enable us to participate in tournaments on-the-go and enhance our practice sessions outside our dedicated gaming space.

With this state-of-the-art equipment, we can stay at the forefront of the gaming world, running the latest games and software to refine our strategies and techniques. The ability to record and review our gameplay will be invaluable for our continuous improvement and growth as a team.

Once again, thank you for making our esports dreams a reality. Your generosity will undoubtedly contribute to our success on the virtual battlefield. We look forward to sharing our progress and achievements with you as we embark on this exciting journey.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Helland

  • Switch It Up

    Funded May 3, 2022

We are now in our second year as a new sport at North Bend, and our eSports program is already at capacity. If not for the support and contributions of our wonderful community of supporters, we would be struggling to provide the same kind of opportunities for our students.

We have had a near 50% upsurge in the number of players even since the beginning of the 2022 school year and we're just getting started, and as we grow, our foundation becomes evermore important.

It is because of you that were are ready to complete, that we had this foundation. So thank you for your support. Thank you for your help.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Helland

  • Leveled Up and a Leg Ahead

    Funded Jun 15, 2022

Since last year, our community and an amazing group of online supporters have helped to create a new space for students at our school. Our eSports lab is drawing students in, everyday asking how they can be a part of this team. Many of these students have little connection to the school's regular athletic programing and struggle to identify with the typical school spirit other students exhibit, and yet here, in the lab, they found a group of people, like themselves, who share common interests and get excited about the same things.

You helped create that space by supporting our team with the purchase of this gaming PC. Every day, students see it and the others purchased through generous funding, and recognize how invested our community is in this program. The PC is no just visually selling point for them, but it has helped give them level up their games. We have new teams competing nationwide everyday fighting for scholarships and trophies.

I am eternally grateful for all your support. And so are the students!”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Helland

  • Teaming Up For Tomorrow

    Funded Feb 9, 2022

There are 35 students on our brand new Esports team. And like any team, there is a whole plethora fo different kinds of kids. One is really quiet, reserved and tends to avoid the loud group gatherings that typically define school activities. Another is awkward, but will chat your ear off when you give them the chance. There's an upperclassman, who, you would have thought, just doesn't look like they belong on a video game team with their athletic gear and swagger, but there they are, right there with the rest of the team. They're all unique, but have this one thing in common that, when finally given the chance, brought them together in one room, cheering each other on, talking about strategies and gameplay, and teamwork.

I think it really hit home for them that our esports team was real when we unpacked the boxes from Donors Choose. When they saw that there was this equipment meant just for them, that people in their community were supporting them and saying, we believe in this, in you you, they finally settled in and took their coats off. They each sat down and took some time on the two gaming machines, testing their games, fidgeting with settings. And then, not two days later, the Spring season began, and this whole thing became truly real.

Thank you for your support. You made this happen! You helped to make this team a reality.”

    With gratitude,

    Mr. Helland

Like any of our local sports or activities, our new NBHS Esports team will provide our students between the ages of 14 and 18 with a safe place to embrace 21st-century skills like connecting with their peers, developing leadership skills, learning strategic thinking, and problem-solving with technology. In North Bend, our local high school sports teams and activities have been an integral part of what makes our community so strong. Be it a middle school basketball game or a Jazz band concert, these activities bring our families, leaders, and businesses together. How we, and the world, define sports has evolved over the years. You may not have ever considered playing competitive video games a sport. However, when competition between teams can fill a stadium of fans, rooting and cheering for their favorite players, it’s hard not to consider competitive gaming a sport. When team members work together to coordinate offensive plays, discuss strategies and work out defensive techniques, it’s hard not to see them as a new kind of athlete. Like any sports team, our players need equipment: instead of balls, we need mice and keyboards; instead of a field, we need desktops and monitors; instead of helmets, we need headphones and mics. Your support would help purchase the equipment to build a competitive team, ready to tackle the future. As the area of eSports grows it’s hard to ignore the opportunities it provides. More than 125 colleges offer varsity Esports, awarding more than $15 million in scholarships annually. Our students are ready and excited for the opportunity to team up for their futures. All they need is your support.
