Within my classroom's four walls reside my remarkable students. They come from areas often labeled by national statistics as uneducated and dangerous. But statistics never tell the whole story. They are teenagers, full of life and resilience. Yet, within four walls, their hardships fade into the background. They are not defined by their circumstances but by their humanity. Each day, they remind me of the joy that exists even in the most trying times. I eagerly anticipate the day they will step out into the world and make their mark, knowing they will undoubtedly leave it brighter than they found it. My students are kind; despite their challenges, they radiate warmth and compassion. They lift each other in a world that often seems determined to tear them down. I create an environment where they can be themselves. In our little sanctuary, they are free to be kids, if only for a few precious hours each day.
