So many of my students tell me they hate reading and never pick up a book to read for pleasure. As an English teacher, and someone who enjoys reading, this breaks my heart! I want to build my personal classroom library with relevant and captivating novels that will spark my students' curiosity and hopefully foster a love for reading. By reading novels that are more relevant to the lives of students, learning happens naturally. "The Hate U Give" is a novel gaining more and more attention from teachers because it is interesting, relevant and offers a narrative and distinct writing style that engages many young people.
