  • Comfy Classroom = Successful Students

    Funded May 27, 2021

We are getting so much enjoyment out of the items from this project! The lamps are by far their favorite. We are able to turn off the harsh overhead lights and use the lamps to light our class room. The students love taking the lamps with them when they sit "around the room" to complete their work. They also love sitting in the corner with the shelf/lamp. Our class "pet" dangles (a plant) lives in that corner. They visit him while completing their work in what is easily the coziest sport in the room!”

    Mrs. Pierson

  • I'm Not Above Bribery.

    Funded Feb 25, 2021

I wish I could have bottled the excitement of my classroom when the students walked in and saw the shelf of prizes. Their eyes light up each time they receive a raffle ticket and then again as they decide which prize they want to try and win.

They leap at the chance to show kindness to a classmate, to share their thinking on a difficult question, and put in extra effort to pass lessons on online reading and math programs. We have seen a definite change since introducing the raffle shelf.

Before, I worried too much time was spent redirecting students. Now, I get to spend time pointing out act of kindness and perseverance.”

  • Reading + Art

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

I wish I had my camera ready to capture my students' faces when I opened the brightly colored paint, paintbrushes, and wooden boards. Their eyes lit up and the questions about what we would be using the supplies for flooded out. They have quickly become accustomed to all of our work being virtual...because...2020. Knowing they could still do some hands on crafts made their day brighter.

We used the supplies to show what we visualized while reading different poems and focusing on imagery. It was grand. I cannot wait to do it again soon!”

  • Social Distancing Organization

    Funded Sep 17, 2020

Thank you for your generosity in helping fund this project.

The thought of my students not having our classroom library available for use created an unexpected amount of stress for me! So many of our lessons are focused on identifying a specific reading skill; modeling that skill; then students practicing the skill. Without access to our classroom library I was unsure how this would happen. That is no longer a concern. The students all have a backpack with books from multiple genres at their disposal.

This school year has enough obstacles to overcome; this removes one of them for my students and me.”

  • Socially Distanced Library Access

    Funded Aug 11, 2020

I cannot tell you how much your generosity has impacted my classroom. Students who are at home have been able to borrow books from my classroom to ensure they have reading material at home. Face to face students are able to always have a variety of books at their fingertips. Most importantly, the books are protected because they are in the backpacks. I do not have to worry about books getting pages or covers bent. This has relieved a lot of stress!

Each student has a bag with their name on it. The bag always has 3 books in it for them to chose from. They are able to trade out the books (for quarantined books!) once a week. This delights them. They love being able to choose their new books.

Again, thank you for making a difference in my students' lives.”

  • Harry Potter and the Novel Lovers

    Funded Mar 2, 2020

Harry Potter is such a perfect book to help students learn to love reading. Magic, dragons, professors that get set on fire....it has everything!

This project was funded right before school closures in spring so I have not yet been able to introduce students to this story, but I cannot tell you how much I am looking forward to seeing students expressions when they realize Snape was trying to SAVE Harry at the end.

I grew up reading Harry Potter, so it is extra special to me to be able to share it with my students. Thank you for giving me that opportunity.”

  • Novels Variety Pack

    Funded Mar 4, 2020

Although we haven't gotten to use the novels yet since schools were closed before they arrived, I know my new students will be excited to have them to read.

Luckily, each book was requested with 6 copies so I will not have to worry about students sharing books. They will get to explore the novel while still following safety guidelines! Each reading group will have their own novel and their own binder to store the book along with all of their notes that go with it.

I am looking forward to sharing these wonderful stories with my new classes and future classes!”

  • Chair Cushions for Comfortable Classroom

    Funded Jan 19, 2020

Thank you so much for your generosity.

When the box of supplies arrived, my students were (almost) as excited as I was! Every student now has a pencil bag, binder, dry erase marker, and a lanyard for their face masks.

The binders are incredibly useful for guided reading! They are able to store their notes and books in the binders. They just grab their binder when it's time for their reading groups. This has made transitions easier as well as help them with their organizational skills.

Thank you again for helping to make this....interesting school year a bit easier on us all.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pierson

  • Chairs? Ew! Desks? No!

    Funded Feb 24, 2020

My students were elated the day the lap desks and floor chairs arrived. We had to line up so everyone got a chance to sit in both of them. The room was filled with excited chatter as they discussed which seat they preferred!

Unfortunately, we got the delivery the day before we left for spring break...and never returned. Even though my 2019-2020 students did not get more than a small taste of these seating options, I know my future classes will love them.

Thank you so much for your donation and support of my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pierson

  • There's No Place Like Home

    Funded Feb 6, 2020

It is difficult to know who was more excited the day the packages arrived. For months, my students and I had been tripping over cheap, falling apart Dollar Tree containers that held their table group's journals and books. FINALLY, those containers are gone. Each table group (for both of my classes) now has a designated container in the shelves for their items.

It seems like such a small thing, but it has changed the way we use the classroom. The shelves act as dividers as well as shelves. The way I positioned them gives the tables next to the shelves a bit of privacy. This has helped with students who need a little isolation to work better.

The rug! I cannot believe we went so long without one. We meet daily for our "Circle Time" to check in and see how everyone is feeling and if they would like to share anything. While we do not all fit on the rug, we fit perfectly around it. It is a central point of the classroom.

The lamps are on our VIP table and two small tables at the back of our room. They add the perfect bit of homey-ness to the room. We turn the lamps (and other lamps) on in then morning instead of the harsh overhead lights. It is a calm way to begin our day.

Thank you again for the difference you have made in our daily lives.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Pierson

My students love to “sit around the room” while working. This allows them to be comfortable and more engaged in lessons and activities. However, tile floors and hard plastic chairs are not the most desirable seating. With these cushion options, my students would be able to turn even the most uninviting surface into a comfortable learning environment. They will transform hard cold tiles and unforgiving plastic chairs into plush and welcoming seats. These cushions will be especially useful during our upcoming state testing (we have 3!) when students are required to test for up to 4 hours while sitting in one spot.
