  • Soothe the 'Ouch'

    Funded Oct 25, 2024

Thank you for your generous contribution to our school community! We have an active school pantry and we often discuss how students can get needed items from school. My students often get little 'ouches' that we care for, and that enables them to continue with all of our classroom activities. On discussing the larger school community and attendance, they thought it would be a great idea to have first aid kits available in our school pantry for families to use at home. They agreed that it would be helpful to have some first aid items in the school pantry.

The students in my class were excited when the packages arrived and they were so happy to be helping out the larger school community. We reinforce this compassion throughout the day as they are encouraged to help one another. We have a steady supply of classroom supplies for those who need and refer to them as our 'community supplies'. In this way we hope to build on their kindness and consideration of others.”

  • Pantry Perfect

    Funded Mar 18, 2024

My students were so excited to help our school community. They had previously reached out to students in other classes and on different grades to build connections, communication and friendship throughout the school community. Now, they wanted to build on this momentum and strengthen the larger school community and its families.

They had discussions on what they, as second graders, could accomplish. Filling the school pantry was something that they all felt strongly about. Including other classes was also very important to them. On receiving the supplies, they were so excited to make posters advertising the food drive, and even more excited to create personalized tote bags for the families to take home items from the food drive in dignity and delight.

Many items of food were donated and they were so happy to see what they had been able to accomplish for other people. They understood that this food was going to the school pantry, and as you can see by their smiles, they were happy with the results of their efforts.

Thank you for your generous donation and your support of our school community!

My hope is that my students internalize this feeling of pride in helping others and continue to grow in this area.”

  • Spread Smiles!

    Funded Nov 28, 2023

Thank you for your generous contribution! My students decorated and filled tote bags with treats to give a student in a different class. They "Spread Smiles" throughout the school community by introducing themselves, giving the tote bag and sharing a smile!

The impact was beautiful. Some of my students received individual thank you notes from their new friend. These notes expressed their gratitude for this boost in their day. Many staff members reached out to share that the receiving students truly felt the 'shared smile' and that it was warmly received.

I hope to continue facilitating projects to build the school community and create bonds of friendship across grades.”

  • In My Eyes

    Funded May 2, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. My students were so excited to see the variety of characters they had to play with. They were delighted to see themselves in the classroom toys! They were even more excited to see the templates of paper characters that they are using to create self portraits of themselves. They are so excited for this activity and have been referencing it in conversation. It is rewarding to see them view themselves as a dynamic part of the classroom.

I so appreciate your contribution to my class! It is a wonderful feeling to know that I, and my students, are part of a bigger community!”

  • Wonderful Stories to Share

    Funded Apr 7, 2021

Thank you for your generous donation to my classroom. The wonderful assortment of books are a boon to my students as they see themselves represented in these texts. Although each text is different in skills, they share a beautiful array of children from many cultures. Experiencing stories through a multicultural lens offers the students an entry point to connect to their own life.

My students enjoy our Read Aloud time and often continue to look at these books during choice reading time. Our Read Aloud time offers discussion time and provides students with the opportunity to express their thoughts on many topics.

Thank you so much for providing these books to my students!”

  • Supply Our Supplies

    Funded Oct 27, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation of assorted classroom supplies. It has been a challenging year and bringing color into our activities was so exciting for my students! They were so excited by the vibrant colors of the paper and the choice of crayons and markers!

The students work on a calendar daily wherein they write the date in many different ways. We expanded this activity to highlight the many ways to write numbers. The students created colorful flowers where each petal showed a different way to write the number. From tally marks to addition and subtraction equations, they were able to practice multiple ways to express a number.

This activity is fundamental in helping the students build a foundation of thinking about numbers. They are asked to explain their thinking in solving math equations and this activity has helped them understand how to approach that. I, along with my students, are so grateful for your contribution!”

  • Presenting Projects

    Funded Jan 3, 2020

Thank you for your generous donation! The supplies came and I am delighted - although I must say my students are even more delighted! I teach Project Based Learning to Grades K-5 with a focus on Social Studies. My students are presented with a challenge and conduct research to find solutions. Organizing and presenting our work are integrally related. As we find information we make note of it. The folders give us an organized way to keep our findings in one place so that we can access our findings with ease. Presenting our work is even more important. We like to share our learning with others and use what we learned along the way in our upcoming projects. These folders will provide a vibrant backdrop for a variety or presentations. Booklets, Brochures, mini-books and more will look awesome when presented nicely. The markers of course will help us make our presentations engaging to our readers.

My first grade students will be creating a Goods and Services Marketplace, and these folders will help them coordinate all of their activities. My second graders are going to build the community of their dream. The markers will bring their construction to life.

Thank you for your generosity! It helps bring my lessons to life!”

    With gratitude,

  • Digital Documents

    Funded Sep 12, 2017

Thank you for your generous contribution. Your donation provided two digital cameras that my students will use to document their varied science activities. I am so excited to offer my students this opportunity. I believe that it will increase their participation and elevate their ability to self-reflect and redesign. This twofold benefit will be a boon to their level of understanding the content.

The cameras will increase their participation as it will provide another means of entry to the activity. More students will access points to the lesson with camera in hand. It will also increase their ability to reflect as they review the pictures and see where improvement can be made. The ability to meaningfully reflect on their activities is a cornerstone of lifelong learning and will provide a wonderful means for students to assess themselves in a way that is fun and gentle. If a student can actually see where an activity went awry and come up with ideas for how to improve on it, they will assimilate this information in a deeper way.

Thank you again for your generous cont”

  • Cultured Canvas

    Funded Jan 23, 2017

My students were so delighted when we received the watercolor paints, paintbrushes and canvas boards. It was the first time they were going to paint on a canvas board and the excitement was palpable. Each students drew an outline of their first initial and then filled it in with objects that were meaningful to them. They drew inspiration from their culture, religion, hobbies and interests. Each canvas is truly unique and represents the individual student.

One aspect of this project that I found most wonderful was my students' accountability towards the supplies and their pride in their finished project. They were sharing with each other the reasons for the objects they depicted inside their initial as they worked.

I was so proud of their investment in this project that it motivated me to obtain more art supplies for future projects. I intend to have them celebrate both Mother's Day and Father's Day with an art project that they will create in class for their parents.

Thank you so much for your donation! This wonderful project inspired both my students and myself.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Blisko

My students are composed of first, second and fourth grade students. They are a diverse group comprised of many cultures and languages;and yet, they form a dynamic, unified whole. They are eager to learn and have a great sense of humor. There is a lot of laughter in the classroom! Our school is a barrier free school with close to 80 languages! It is a public school and it is a wonderful place to work. The staff is professional and supportive of each other. Students are aware of the high expectations that we have for them, and we are not disappointed! The Parents' Association is vibrant and adds so much to our school environment. We love taking trips to expose the children to new places, ideas and environments. We also love inviting the parents into our classroom for workshops and celebrations throughout the year.
