Remote School-Based OT Makes Classroom Goals Happen!
Funded Oct 23, 2020The 2020-2021 school year has been incredibly challenging with hybrid scheduling, being on top of last-minute changes (secondary to classroom quarantines, etc.), and reaching out to students that have varied access to technology.
Your most recent contribution has supported my students following a schoolhouse model, as well as those students that are learning from home. With the paper and ink requested on my project, I can print therapeutic material from the comfort of my home and deliver to my schoolhouse students (without needing to use public computers and/or printers). For my online students, I can review different techniques through the downward camera of the document scanner. I can also mail materials to student homes if parents do not have access to a printer. I am also dynamic with my technology because I can travel with my personal laptop, cordless mouse, and document camera to keep up with my hybrid OT schedule.
Although remote intervention is not for everyone, my students exhibit excellent engagement with my dynamic exercises for overall strength and coordination, as well as optimal participation with virtual activities to promote their fine motor and visual perceptual development.
From the bottom of my heart, thank you for your continued supper in my OT endeavors, as well your generous support to peers in our community.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Myriam

Funded Oct 4, 2019Wow! What a difference you have made within our school-wide environment. Teachers are coming into our sensory classroom to take a peak of our sensory equipment. Students are excited to visit their new therapy oasis to participate with their new sensory activities. Administrators are fascinated by the innovative methods that we are introducing to our student population.
Students are further engaged with our new "fish tank" (plastic fish bubble lamp), the flourescent light filters have added a mellow component to the bright lighting in the classroom, and the flexible seating rubber bands have added a dynamic component to student's chairs to promote further learning in our active students. Structured therapy sessions now involve sensorimotor courses that include the play mat, sensory (crash) pad, rebounder, and a balance beam to promote overall strength and coordination within our students.
Thank you for all that you have done for us and stay tuned for more ingenious approaches to teaching and therapeutic intervention at our school! Introducing flexible seating, an extension of our multi-sensory classroom, is our next venture...”
With gratitude,
Ms. Myriam

Funded May 3, 2019We can't thank you enough for your contribution to our sensory community room. We are three therapists assigned to this school at the moment and we have enjoyed introducing our new tools with students. As students have varying abilities and Play is universal, our students are becoming stronger with their fine motor and visual perceptual skills while engaging with these new activities.
We used to implement activities that were donated by previous therapists/teachers and utilize pre-used items that our own children would play with as therapeutic intervention; however, with our carefully-selected activities, our students feel like they are part of an up-and-coming project with being the first to use these new tools.
Now that we are better equipped with therapy tools, we recently received a (new) DonorsChoose contribution for sensory equipment to finalize our sensory community room. The end-goal of this room is to welcome our students with emotional/behavioral disabilities to explore this sensory environment, participate with fine motor and visual perceptual activities, and to socialize with peers in a non-judgmental environment.
We are currently using this environment for therapy sessions, however our plan is to start educating teachers and to welcome non-therapy students with emotional/behavioral difficulties to explore this classroom environment. Stay tuned towards this successful impact in our community!
We couldn't do this without you... on behalf of our Kendale Lakes Elementary community and the Miami Dade County Public school system, thank you for making this happen in our community!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Myriam
