Our students will have the opportunity to be immersed in real-life, project-based, problem-solving activities over the course of a semester. Students will, through hands-on activities, discover the design process and develop an understanding of the influence of creativity and innovation in their lives. They are challenged and empowered to use and apply what they have learned throughout the course to design a therapeutic toy for a child who has cerebral palsy. We study the affects of cerebral palsy on young people. We first create models from plastic snap-cubes, then build actual wooden block puzzles (with tacky glue to secure the pieces) based on these models. We will create physical modifications to our puzzle creations to meet the needs of young people with cerebral palsy without compromising the intellectual difficulty of the puzzles. Next we will 3D print our puzzle pieces with a 3D printer. Through this path, our students can begin to think and act with an engineer's mindset. They will be introduced to a variety of career possibilities that will excite them. The course curriculum demands that students begin to take ownership of their own learning and therefore prepares them for their present and future. We ask that you please partner with us to enrich, inspire, and equip our JET students for a better tomorrow. Our students are in for an exciting journey!
