  • Fidgets and Conversation Cards to Enhance Social Emotional Learning

    Funded Dec 11, 2024

Thank you so much for the fidgets and conversation cards! We were able to create 12 fidget kits for all our guidance staff, and each team received a box full of fidgets. Whenever we have restorative justice circles, club meetings, or advisory circles, we now have a box of fidgets ready for students. These fidgets help students stay present and engaged while listening to their peers and teachers during discussions.

Students' eyes lit up when they saw the boxes of fidgets—many of them immediately asked if they could keep them! They often stop by my office to borrow fidgets for the day. To ensure they remain available for everyone, we've developed a system for students to check them out for the day or a class period. This helps us keep them in good condition so they can be used again and again.

In our Peer Leaders Club, students have been brainstorming ways to improve our advisory program and build a stronger sense of community both within advisories and across the school. As part of their work, they lead community-building activities, and the fidgets have become a key tool in supporting our student leaders.”

  • College and Career Feelings Lunch Club

    Funded Sep 11, 2024

I am so grateful for your generous contribution, which has made a tangible impact on our students. The snacks you provided have been more than just a simple gesture—they have fueled a group of engaged, thoughtful discussions among our students. Thanks to your support, we've been able to create a space where students can come together to discuss important topics like college, careers, and current events, including the recent election.

One of the most meaningful aspects of our group has been the involvement of one of our alumni, who is currently a college student. They've stepped up as a facilitator and mentor, leading these discussions and helping students build a strong, supportive bond. Many of our students have shared their anxieties about the future, especially around college. Our group facilitator has been able to dig deeper into these concerns, offering valuable insights and advice while also creating a safe space for students to explore and confront their fears. It's been incredibly rewarding to see students open up and start to address the roots of their anxiety with the guidance of someone who has walked that path before them.

Your support has not only made these discussions possible but also created an environment where our students feel heard, supported, and empowered to think critically about their futures. The snacks, though small, have been a catalyst for connection and a symbol of the care and community that your contribution has fostered.

As we move forward, we are excited to continue these conversations and help our students develop the tools they need to face the challenges ahead. Thank you for helping us create a space where they feel comfortable sharing, learning, and growing together.”

  • Building Community through Snacks and Glitter Jars

    Funded Sep 20, 2023

Thank you so much for your generous donation to my students and our classroom. My students loved the snacks so much. I used the cup of noodle soups and chips during lunch so students could stay in my room and get extra support during lunch. I gave out snacks everytime I taught the last period of the day. Our students eat lunch at 10:50 to they are very hungry come 2 pm.

In advisory, we made glitter jars to use as talking pieces for our circles. We use circles in our school to build community, support each other and deal with conflicts or issues that arise in our community. Each student was able to make their own and take it home with them. They love their glittter jars so much!

My students are going to continue to lead circles in advisory and build on their facilitation skills. In advisory, we are going to move into career exploration and discuss our feelings around our futures. They are really appreciative of all the support they received from you and our community.”

  • Student Snacks to Power Young Minds

    Funded Nov 30, 2022

Thank you so much for your generous donations. My last-period students were able to have snacks for the last three months. Having those snacks gave them the energy to continue to work.

They were so happy when they saw the snacks. They were really moved and touched that you all would donate money and food to them so they could do the work. To this day, they still ask me for snacks. I might have to start a new fundraiser soon.

Now, we are on our last unit of the school year. We are reading and learning about how our history affects our current identities. We are learning about colonialism and how its effects are seen today. Your snacks had a huge impact in getting them through the winter months and satisfying their hunger.

    Thank you so much!”
