  • Special Seating for Special Students

    Funded Nov 3, 2019

My students and I are using the alternative seating on a daily basis in the classroom. There are many times students will request to work in my room in order to use the seating instead of other classrooms. At this time seating is being used with 7th and 8th grade special education students, general education students as well as a before school tutoring group and an after school tutoring group.

My students were extremely excited when the materials arrived. I waited to unbox everything until they were with me in the classroom, and we then worked together to assemble everything that needed assembly. This not only gave the students a sense of responsibility and ownership of the projects but provided a hands on lesson with following directions, something that many students need.

The next steps for our classroom will be to increase the amount of sensory supplies, STEAM projects and supplies as well as hands on technology to integrate into lessons throughout the year.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Worden

  • Audio Capabilities

    Funded Aug 3, 2019

I want to give a huge heartfelt Thank You, for taking the time to fund my request for headphones. In this technology infused world it is important for students to have the ability to focus. In my classroom there are many different assignments running at the same time as students are working independently on skills that are needed to succeed. These headphones you have provided allows them to utilize the needed tools while being able to hear the audio-visual components of their lessons and not everyone else's. Students are able to not only use the headphones in independent lessons, they are available for use on statewide testing that requires a listening component. Now students can listen to the audio in the tests as many times as needed without bothering students around them or being distracted by other students as well.

My students are excited and impressed with the new headphones as they couldn't wait to put them to use. The headphones have improved student focus and decreased the distractions in our classroom, as well as allowing the students to be able to check them out and use in other classrooms as well. Some of our older students have even admitted that just putting the headphones on while working on assignments that require no audio helps them to focus by drowning out the little noises that can divert their attention. It also keeps them from wanting to talk during class.

Once again, we would like to Thank You for your generous donations! Great teachers influence and inspire their students but understand that they don't do it alone. It is through the support of businesses and people like you that great things can happen in a classroom. Without donors like you our students would not be able to perform to their best capabilities.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Worden

Many of the students in our building have sensory issues. They need an area where they can go to collect, regroup and rejoin the rest of their class without having an emotional breakdown. One of the rugs will be used for that area in order to provide a different sensory input for students to work with. The second rug will be used in order to help create a cozy nook where student can read and learn to read for enjoyment. This will allow a different space for students to spend time finding things that they enjoy reading and will give students a comfortable area where they want to spend time reading. Studies show that the more a person reads the more they learn, and this area will give students a place they want to practice.
