For The Love Of Reading!
Funded Nov 13, 2012It is with my deepest gratitude that I write this thank-you note from the bottom of my heart! I can safely say that this year has been THE most successful school year that I have ever had in my 7 years of being an educator.
One of the biggest lessons I've learned is to teach the child, not just the content. This year, I focused even more on character building with my students through the themes of the books that we've read; We read Number the Stars, The Hunger Games, and Monster. Each book had relevant lessons that my students learned much from, thanks to your donations of the novels. My kids know to be careful with the friends they hang out with, to not be at the wrong place at the wrong time, and to be an active agent against racism. Through the tablets that you donated, they researched role models of the past and presented projects of people such as Jackie Robinson, WEB DuBois, Charles Drew, Che, and many more.
I couldn't have had such a successful year without you! My students' reading levels have shot up, their writing has improved immensely, and they are better oral presenters now ready for the 7th grade. 25 of them were also semi-finalists in an essay contest this year, and one of them was a finalist.
So thank you again for caring about the youth! For investing in our future generation, may you be abundantly blessed :)”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Clark
One Of The Newest Ways To Learn!
Funded Jan 21, 2012I've had such an amazing year with my students this year. I want to thank you first and formally for believing in me, and for believing in my students. It's important in this day and age (especially with the severe budget cuts in education) to still be reminded that our youth are our future.
Thanks to you, I've successfully raised enough money for a Samsung Tablet- and the kids love it! We do a lot of acting in class, so the main "app" that has been used is the camcorder app. We have already taped our own version of "The Hunger Games," "The Outsiders," and various TV commercials for our persuasion unit . The kids really did have a blast. In addition to the camcorder app, my students also used a grammar app to better their editing skills. My next step is to purchase novels on the Samsung tablet so that my struggling readers may benefit from it. Once again, I deeply appreciate your donations to my class. I'm proud to announce that, this year, 85% of my students have raised their reading level. I know that the Samsung Tablet was definitely a catalyst to their success. Cheers to YOU all for your compassion, your heart, and your influence on our youth!”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Clark
