The almost 400 students in my music classes--which sometimes range up to 38 students per class--go to a public 'Title One' school in South Florida. That means that at least 80 percent of the student population, many of which are first generation Americans, are on free or reduced cost lunches. Thus, their exposure to musical instruments--and music itself--is extremely limited. The challenges facing these children and the hurdles they must overcome in this new environment, are, at times, daunting. Yet in music class, where their enthusiasm and curiosity seem boundless, they find the inspiration in being able to express themselves through the magic of music. I want to provide the proper resources to build a basic understand of--and hopefully a love for--music and all it can provide.
