Academic planners allow students to improve time management skills, assignment tracking and organizational skills. Students will become responsible for keeping track of their work and will improve their self-esteem and motivation when they monitor their own achievements. "Learning to be organized is a process, a skill that needs to be taught, practiced and honed." (Goldberg & Zwiebel, 2005) Transitioning form elementary school to middle school can be extremely overwhelming especially for students with disabilities. Students will learn important organizational skills which will benefit them for the rest of their lives. These planners also help promote communication between parents and teachers, and allow parents to see exactly what their child is responsible for in each class.
