  • Cozy Corner for Kinders!

    Funded Apr 15, 2019

    Our Cozy Corner is complete! We have rearranged our cozy corner to incorporate our new tools from this project. The students are excited to explore the new materials that were donated.

    The students opened the box and were amazed at the materials that they received in the mail. They loved the new putty colors. They were eager to play with each new putty when we first used the tools. The students used the weighted blanket right away, sitting on the bean bag and putting the blanket on their lap. They loved that it is soft and blue!

    During our class Quiet Time, we used the calming light. The light helped the students stay calm during their relaxation time after lunch. The students love that the light even changes colors!

    With this donation, the students are requesting to "take a break" more frequently. This opportunity helps my students communicate when they need a break. This is so important and helps my students have a great day every day!”

  • Super Sensory Kinders!

    Thank you for funding our project Super Sensory Kinders! The kids were so excited when the packages started to arrive. Our classroom is a more comfortable, and sensory aware, space thanks to you! The students were eager to explore their new sensory tools and have been using them every day!

    The blue cushions have become a favorite flexible seating option. My favorite part about the cushions is that the students are able to use them independently. When a student would like one, he or she is able to walk to the back of the classroom and bring a cushion back to their seat. These cushions are also very helpful for students who are more comfortable working or playing on the floor. We even use the cushions as backrests to improve posture! We have replaced playdoh with the therapeutic putty and the students are definitely getting stronger. Every day we come back from lunch and the students are excited to use the therapeutic putty to "play", however they really are working on strengthing their little hands. The thin dry-erase markers are motivating for the students to practice their handwriting during morning meeting and classroom work. The kids love all the different color options and I love that they are improving handwriting skills!

    The blue activity mat allows students to sit on the floor comfortably during story-time, or take a break when they need a rest. It's so nice to have a place that is clean and comfortable for the students to sit and listen to a story! The chair bands have helped my fidgety learners sit in their chairs and focus during instruction and play. It is amazing how students' thinking has changed since we have started to use chair bands. Students are in their seats, moving, and thinking all at the same time!

Wobble cushions and seat bands will allow students to wiggle in their seats while learning. Wobble cushions can also be used to create a space to learn on the floor. Throughout the day, my students require breaks when the environment may become overstimulating. An activity mat will allow my students to relax on a soft and safe space in the classroom. Thera-putty helps strengthen little hands, which some of my students need in order to be successful in writing and other fine-motor tasks. My students love using dry erase markers for writing, solving math problems or simply creating. Markers that erase easily allow students to make mistakes without becoming frustrated. This allows for endless learning opportunities. Lastly, a weighted turtle toy will help students feel safe providing sensory input for learning, communicating and playing.
