My students are interested in the places that books can take them. Despite being from an area of town where literacy is not always emphasized, they have a hunger for it. These books were hand picked by my students and they are eagerly awaiting them. They cannot wait to dive into new adventures and explore new places. These books will allow us to complete more independent reading time without it being such a struggle to find an interesting book. With independent novels, students can analyze theme, tone, mood, and other literary devices we learn in class. It becomes the ultimate mentor text that they are deeply invested in!
