My incoming sixth graders were in 4th grade the last time they stepped foot into a classroom, and this will be their first year as middle schoolers. I am also new to teaching (1.5 years in a classroom and 1.5 years online) and am in the process of building a beautiful science classroom environment for my students. This is where you come in!
Many people may not know that in the public school system, classrooms are only furnished with desks, whiteboards, a laptop, and a projector. Everything you see on the walls, any additional furnishings, are all provided or acquired by the teacher and their supportive community (i.e. you!).
With your help, when my students arrive on the first day of school they will enter a room where they feel inspired, calm, supported, and seen. Many of the items I've picked were requested by students when I surveyed my sixth graders last spring. I have already purchased the pride flag and BLM poster they asked for!
The blue tooth speaker is essential (when paired with my iPad) for delivering the students either calming sounds or the music they have requested. The lab coats, ordered in many sizes because sixth graders come in many sizes, will be used as an incentive for students that are voted by their peers as "scientist of the week." An essential oil infuser and fidget tools will help students relax. The bell chime is an unobtrusive way to gain attention and bins create a predictable system for where things can be found or put away.
Thank you for taking the time to read my profile and for your consideration in helping to co-create a wonderful classroom environment for our youth!
