Funded May 5, 2020During these difficult times, adults know they have to cope and be patient. However for Kindergarten students that are no older than 6, they have a difficult time understanding why we have to stay home and why we can't go back to school. On a weekly basis my students ask me when this virus will end and when are we going to go back to school.
For as much as we talk about it, their little hearts yearn for the chance to go to school and play with their friends on our playground. Some have hard days, when they cry because they want me to be with them helping them with their work instead of a computer screen. Some say they wish they could give me a hug. It breaks my heart to see them wanting to grab something, hug something, or just be given a 'high five'.
With your amazing and generous hearts you have given my students and I something to look forward to when we do finally get to go back to school and be together. Their eyes grew with wonderment and excitement with the idea that when these hard times finally go away, there will be these beautiful new tricycles waiting for them. They imagine learning how to pedal, steer, and race each other. They imagine pulling their friends and cheering each other on as they race around the bike path. I imagine seeing them learn about doing healthy activities, learning about their gross motor skills, and using their math skills to time their laps around the bike path. I imagine my wonderful students just being kids and having fun. Thank you for giving us the hope that one day we will finally get to be together again at our wonderful school.”
With gratitude,
Ms. Martinez
