  • One Stop Spelling Toolbox

    Funded Dec 20, 2024

Thank you so much for funding us! Deepening student understanding of spelling is critical in remediating learning disabilities that affect so many children! English spelling has a deep orthography that contains many spelling rules that CAN be explained to students and SHOULD be! It makes it so much less stressful and arbitrary. I am proud to have the opportunity to support my kids in this knowledge. Your contribution has made it that much easier to support them!”

  • Red Word Reading

    Funded Aug 8, 2024

Check out our pictures to see my unboxing pictures of the resources, and then what they look like all put away in my storage containers! Before, I was keeping my red word flash cards on the edge of my circle table and they kept falling off... the plastic containers they were in were breaking when they would hit the ground and it was NOT a success! However, these new drawers mean I don't need to search for the group and comb through bins. There's no more loud and distracting noises when something falls off... it's the little things that make a huge difference!

Overall, these have saved a ton of my time each week in having to create my own cards. I can focus on writing robust IEPs for my students and remaining up to date on the latest research to support students in their daily needs. I am so glad that I have these to help me, and that I was able to support a local business in the purchasing of the item!”

  • Ready to Read!

    Funded May 12, 2024

Thank you so much for supporting us at the end of last school year. I absolutely wasn't expecting this to be funded so quickly, but it was a huge blessing to be! We were able to use the end of the year teacher work days in order to get our binders built for student work throughout the year. IMSE allows us to make copies of these resources in order to use them within our own classroom, so my instructional assistants and I were able to deconstruct the ordered books. Then, we reorganized them to match the scope and sequence for our lessons. This was a total game changer for our start of the year. We were ready to hit the ground running with assessments and beginning instruction. It also alleviated my own stress by allowing me to feel prepared for the year. I am so happy and excited to have been given this opportunity! The binders have been really helpful for students too, as they get to know the new process and procedure for this curriculum. We are learning so much!”

  • Phenomenal Phonological Awareness

    Funded Nov 29, 2023

Thank you so much for helping develop my learning to support my students. This class enabled me to identify a group of students that I want to support with targeted intervention in the area of Phonological Awareness. These kindergarteners are getting regular practice in playing with the units of sound orally in order to translate those skills to reading and writing. Some students are able to learn this skill naturally, but others require explicit instruction in how to manipulate oral language before translating it into written language or vice versa.

In addition to being able to provide this direct, explicit instruction and targeted intervention to my students, I am also able to weave this instruction through "one minute drills" at the start of my structured literacy approach. This widens the impact of this training on my teaching abilities. I am so grateful for this opportunity!”

  • Morphology Magic!

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

I was so excited when I learned about this Morphology Program to support our older learners in the area of Word Study. Increasing reading comprehension is an instrumental part of the elementary years and these students need it most!

We are so excited to have these additional resources from the publisher of this program. This is the first year that we have offered the Morphology program to students in a Structured Literacy setting and it has really supported their learning across the board. The lessons are going well, with notebooks, flashcard decks, and reading comprehension packets. The students are beginning to make connections to their reading across the curriculum and I am excited to see the continued impact.”

  • Morphology Magicians at Work

    Funded Aug 2, 2023

This was our first year of having access to a Structured Literacy approach to Morphology and advanced reading concepts. The training that I received this summer had been beneficial to our readers who grew and learn through our Phonics programs. However, as they are receiving continued literacy instruction in the general education, we are finding the still require special education instruction in word study. We wanted to find an additional way to impact these students outside of the existing programs we had access to.

When starting this program, I had some supplies I really needed to get this program running. Donors on DonorsChoose stepped up to meet the needs of my kiddos and I am so grateful for you!”

  • Phonics Fanatics!

    Funded May 9, 2023

We are some lucky ducks! Over a year ago, we created our first project to support our classroom. This project was instrumental in conducting our Orton Gillingham reading instruction. We were able to directly impact the reading development of many children who were reading multiple grade levels behind.

Unfortunately, a variety of these tools were consumable. Therefore, we needed a refresh. This ended up not being a problem at all, thanks to Donors like YOU! We were able to restock our classroom supplies that we need for the groups. I have now transitioned to a new position in my school where I am doing Orton Gillingham instruction all day. I have increased the amount of students who I am teaching daily with these methods and am able to increase the reading level by a fantastic amount.

Because of your donations, we are able to help dozens of children learn how to read!”

  • Under Construction: Building Our Words

    Funded May 12, 2023

This was a super cool resource! I was so grateful to find these tools and be able to utilize them in my classroom. We have had some difficulties with students who are older learners but need to learn basic reading skills. This is challenging, because a lot of the resources, tools, and activities out there are developmentally below the maturity of these students.

Having access to these resources has helped to have some activities that we can do in our word work routines. We are able to do something on their level that is multisensory and engaging. They are able to work with words in a really fun and exciting way!

Thank you so much for contributing to our classroom.”

  • Resources to Last!

    Funded Mar 28, 2023

Thank you so much for your valuable contribution to our classroom. We have been using the gift cards to purchase items that are incredibly valuable in our classroom. I have gotten items across the curriculum- from social skills to phonics to reading comprehension and more!

Students have been able to use these items and resources both in the general education classroom and in intervention groups. You can even see some resources here that have been printed and hung up in my classroom. Miniature versions of the CUPS posters have been placed in the desk of every student to support their writing across the curriculum.

We are saving some more of the gift card to make purchases around future quarters, so this resource will continue to support our classroom and students!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Wichtendahl

My classroom is full of fun-loving, hard workers! We are a special education classroom for students with moderate support needs. My students have a variety of diagnoses that may include Down Syndrome, Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, Learning Disabilities, and more. My classroom serves students in grades K-6. We have the support of one lovely assistant who is my right hand in all things. The numbers of students in my classroom grows over the course of a school year, as more students are referred for these services. Currently, we serve 17 students. Many of my students also receive services as English Language Learners. In this classroom, we believe in having fun while learning! Our students adore learning centers and multisensory learning opportunities. They love dance breaks and sensory fidgets. My kiddos are big fans of every chance to laugh and enjoy learning.
