Long Lasting Literacy Centers
Funded Dec 19, 2013My students were so excited when I brought two huge boxes from Lakeshore into the classroom. Their eyes lit up as I opened each box and took out what was inside. They were very interested in all of the non-fiction activities and vocabulary materials. So far each of my reading groups has been able to explore and use different materials that are geared to their level and needs. These materials are also an excellent resource for my parent volunteers to be able to use with my students. My students are using the resources every day.
The materials from this project helped boost my students' interest and cooperation during our guided reading time. Since some of my groups are larger, my students have shown how they can share the materials and work together. There are independent activities that can be differentiated even more. My students also know that these resources are for future students so they are being respectful while they use them.
Thank you again for supporting my students with your donations. I can't wait to see how much growth they make this year.”

Non-Fiction Addiction - We Need Books!
Funded Nov 28, 2012Thank you so much for your donation!
This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The books that you donated have helped my students improve their reading skills. We've used them to learn new vocabulary words, learn about non-fiction text features, improve their reading fluency, and help them gain knowledge of interesting topics. The multi-level nonfiction books have helped me differentiate during my small group instruction.
Our school and district have had difficulty funding the basic needs for our classrooms. Without your help, my students wouldn't have the necessary tools to reach their potential.
Because of donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States have the resources they need.”

Are You Listening? - Listening Center and Books Needed
Funded Oct 2, 2012Thank you for donating to my project. The listening center and books have made a huge impact on my student's learning. At first, when some of my intervention groups listened to the books, they had a difficult time following along with the stories independently. Now, they are able to keep up with the narrator and read most of the words themselves.
My goal was to use these tools to help improve my students' reading fluency and comprehension. Because of your generous donation, I have definitely seen growth in both areas.
Thank you once again for supporting my students. We really appreciate it!”

Funded Sep 5, 2012This is just a small token of my gratitude for your generous donation. The books you donated help my students every single day. We use them to ask questions that lead us to mini-inquiries. They have also helped my students improve their vocabulary and reading comprehension. The rolling cart is great for storing the leveled books.
Our school is constantly facing budget cuts which makes it very difficult for us to get the resources we need for our students. It's donors like you that make it possible to be able to provide our students with the necessary materials they need to be successful.”

Too Hot to Handle - We Need an Air Conditioning Unit
Funded Apr 15, 2012This is just a small token of gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The portable air conditioner has made the beginning of the school year so much more pleasant then it has been in the past. We have barely noticed the extreme temperatures outside because our classroom stays nice and cool. Having a comfortable learning environment allows everyone to focus on their work.
Due to the current budget crisis in education, our school would never have been able to purchase this necessity without your help.
Without donors like you, thousands of classrooms in the United States would have to go without.”

Funded Dec 31, 2011This is a small token of appreciation for your generous donation to my classroom. The math materials that are now a part of my classroom have made an amazing impact on my students. The math centers are very engaging, especially for my 2nd grade group. They almost don't realize that they are working on difficult math skills because they are having so much fun. I use the problem solving math cards as an opener to our math class a couple of days a week. This gives my students an opportunity to show their math thinking in different ways and they are able to learn from each other. My advanced math students will get the problem solving cards from the "upper grade" box when they are finished with their independent work. They will often choose a skill that they need to work on.
I am so excited that the students I have now, and will have in the coming years, have these fabulous materials to use. Thank you again!”

Magnificent Mathematicians Need Math Materials
Funded Dec 28, 2011This is just a small token of gratitude for your generous donation to my classroom. The math manipulatives that were purchased have been a big hit with my students. For some students, seeing numbers and breaking them apart comes naturally. Most of the students I teach need to use "hands-on" materials to solve math problems. The fraction pieces are a perfect visual to teach equivalent fractions and have also helped my students see how they can add fractions. The dice are a huge hit also. There are dice with larger numbers that my advanced students have been using to play a multiplication game. The real life math scenarios really challenge my students by using situations that they can relate to. They love figuring out how to add items off of a menu or figure out how much change they will get back.
I hope you all know that your generosity has had an amazing impact on my current students and will positively affect my students for years to come.”

What's Up, Doc? Camera
Funded Dec 13, 2011This is just a small token of thanks for the generosity that you all have displayed. The amazing technology that was funded has allowed my students to broaden their learning.
My students use the laptops with the wireless mice to take reading quizzes, conduct research, play math games, and look up their own data when setting learning goals. I have been able to use the document camera to show students exemplars and work that might need a little bit of help to move them to the next proficiency level. This amazing technology helps me give my students immediate feedback when they complete independent work as well as teaching them new skills. Students are also able to use the document camera to show their math thinking to their classmates.
Due to the budget shortfall at the district level, my students would have never had access to these vital resources without your help. Having current technology in all classrooms is imperative. Thank you again for your donation! ”

Sharp Pencils Write Better than Crayons
Funded Sep 14, 2011This is just a small token of my gratitude for your donation to my classroom. The amazing pencil sharpener and pencils that were purchased with this project have helped streamline the class structure. Students know they can quickly and quietly sharpen their fabulous Ticonderoga pencils when they need to. It's amazing how respectful they are when I'm teaching and their pencil breaks. They will wait for a "break in the action" to use the sharpener. These basic necessities have made my students feel valued.
Thank you again for your generosity! Donors like you make it possible for classrooms to not have to go without.”

Funded Mar 16, 2011Thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. My students have made tremendous growth in the past few months. Having a whiteboard in the front of the classroom has helped them focus on the task at hand. It has also given me a place to write the daily goal for each group. I have been able to refer back to it so that we can all stay on track. Thank you again for making such an impact on students you've never met but you know will be our future leaders, teachers, doctors, lawyers, architects, engineers, etc...”
