Sensory exploration tools and materials are great for student's language development, helps to build nerve connections in the brain, encourages the development of fine motor skills, helps to engage scientific thinking and problem solving, and helps with student's emotional and social well-being. Many of my Kindergarteners were greatly affected by COVID-19, and were stuck inside their homes at a very young and crucial age, unable to socialize and explore the world around them. For this reason, I feel that it is extremely important for students to get to use sensory materials with their peers, in order to practice socialization, as well as develop their fine motor skills. We also live where it gets very cold and snows, so once the later fall season hits, we won't get to play outside as often as we try to now. Having sensory materials inside the warmth of our classroom would have a major positive impact during the colder months. I also feel that sensory tables with materials will be extremely beneficial to my students because playing with sensory manipulatives greatly distracts the brain, and has been proven to relax anxiety, restlessness, and other not-so-great emotions that are showing to be more prevalent due to the pandemic. Please help us out so that we can have sensory materials, as they are way too expensive for myself to purchase. Thank you so very much!
