My students come from diverse backgrounds, and have a variety of reading abilities. I teach at a dual language school, and the majority of my students are English Language Learners. They are funny, sweet, and curious about the world around them. They love when I pick up a book in Spanish and read it to them. They can understand it, relate to it, and feel confident when I read the book. At our school we teach in English and in Spanish. My students struggle with the English because they do not get enough exposure to the language. I want to be able to balance the English and Spanish in my classroom. I want my students to feel confident when picking up a book whether it is in English or Spanish.
