My favorite part of school was being read to by my teachers. One year a teacher read "Summer of the Monkeys" by Wilson Rawls. I loved it. So much so, that I read it to my younger brother that summer. We laughed until our sides ached. Now that I'm a middle school teacher, I want to give my students the same enjoyment. And thanks to you, I will get to! I currently have this book hiding in a cupboard. We will read it together in the spring. Hopefully it will help ease the strain of standardized testing.”

We had such a spooky fall thanks to you! I read a chapter a day of "Wait Till Helen Comes" aloud while my students followed along. The kids started out all tough and even a bit snarky claiming the novel was not even a little scary. However, when we got the part where the ghost was destroying the bedroom of the main character, Molly, it was clear my kids were a bit shook. Reading this book in October is my favorite new tradition. Middle school is the perfect age since they are in between childhood and teenager years and so willing imagine themselves being haunted.”

Thank you for the generous donation. I can't resist stocking the library with books students have requested, but as you know that adds up very quickly. These books have already passed hands a few times since they arrived just a few short weeks ago! It makes my teacher heart so happy to see students with noses in books and asking to borrow them over weekends and breaks. I would not be able to keep up with their wish lists without the help of Donors Choose and community donors. We are grateful.”

I completely loathed writing this project. It is so grim. I wanted to ask for things that are , engaging, and educational for my students, not an emergency lockdown kit. I can't even describe how relieved I was to receive the email stating you had funded the project for the kit supplies. It is one less thing for me to carry on shoulders. The water, suckers, crackers and stress toys are stashed neatly in our hiding corner. Now let's hope and pray my students and I never, ever have need of it!”

I am happy to announce that the project is a success! Students are opting to put away laptops when they finish the assignment in order to pick a puzzle. It is freaking adorable! Some of them have literally put their heads together while looking for solutions. And, man, the pride when a puzzle is solved is unmatched. Their faces glow and they show me and all their mates. I have even heard them tell friends in the halls about solving one of the puzzles. I am so grateful to you. My students are calm, happy, and developing self-esteem.”
Thank you! Because of your support we were able to start the school year off with everything we need to be successful. I can't even tell you what a weight off my shoulders it was to receive the email regarding your generous donation. It is a joy to teach middle schoolers, but even more enjoyable when we have more than just the basics. Because you funded the air filters, I am able to use my class funds for pencils and paper.
Thank you for removing that worry from me. My students not only benefit from the actual items, but a teacher who feels supported.”

Many in our community work multiple jobs to support their families. Most students qualify for free or reduced lunch. Despite these challenges, our students continue to persevere.
I have the privilege of teaching English Language Learners. Students come from 13 countries and speak 2-3 languages each! They translate for their parents when buying groceries, calling a doctor, or speaking to school staff. This responsibility has created a group of mature and empathetic kids.
Although my students are very bright and able to speak English, they struggle with reading and writing. Increasing their literacy is the focus of every class lesson and activity. I believe that students thrive when they feel loved and secure in our schools and classrooms. We choose reading materials, podcasts, and short films that lend themselves to discussions topics including our emotional well-being, social skills, and acts of kindness.
