Basic Needs for Refugees
Funded Nov 9, 2023The impact of your generosity is so great I find it difficult to put it into words the joy and learning that has happened thanks to you all.
Students have been using the Daily Science as weekly homework to directly connect with the standards we are working on in class. As we do not have a science curriculum or consumables it has been so helpful to have materials I can choose that connect directly to the standards we are working on!
This week we finished the first part of our unit on Plate Tectonics. Thanks to your generosity my students had quality materials to guide our exploration into how the theory of Plate Tectonics was developed.
We utilized the glue sticks and notebooks daily for our interactive notebooks. We were able to make an awesome hallway display of Pangea using the glue-sticks and colorful paper. Student's eyes lit up when they saw the color choices!
Next we will move into learning about the layers of the earth and those colored papers and glue will be so helpful in creation of our models!”

This classroom project was brought to life by General Motors & Young Sheldon on CBS and 5 other donors.Smart Tech For Bright Philadelphia Futures
Funded Nov 16, 2016Thank you all so much for donating to this project! My students were amazed that our project got funded so quickly! The tablets are used during our weekly station rotation day. During this time students are broken into groups of five and they rotate the room between "stations" where they are working on small group activities. During the Tablet station, students are able to play physics games, do research on different physics topics or research different scientists and their accomplishments.
My students are the most excited about having the ability to use the tablets to differentiate their work. Some students complete assignments quickly and they then have the opportunity to go to the table station and complete some of the activities listed above.
Two of my students in particular have really benefited from having this technology in the classroom. J.S. and J.H. have consistently been using the tablets to further their understanding of how the technology works. They set up the tablets, registered them, and have been doing research on the different technological components that make the tablets work. They love having the opportunity to tinker with the tablets and to find new and exciting ways that we can use them in the classroom.
Our appreciation is never ending.”
With gratitude,
Mrs. Zhao
