Food for Thought - Sweet Treats
Funded Sep 18, 2024Thank you for fulfilling our project for "sweet treats". The student government body at Bronx Alliance Middle School, the PACT Council, had a great time organizing a Breast Cancer Awareness activity at our school. The PACT Council members gave up a couple of hours after school to fill treat bags with goodies for our students who dressed in pink. They distributed the treat bags during lunch and then our students took pictures in a photo booth, which the PACT Council put together and ran.
Our students were able to use their executive functioning, communication, and teamwork skills to plan, organize, and run our Wear It Pink Day, thanks to your organization.
Our next project is to plan a holiday drive so that ALL of our 200 students can go home with a present before the holidays. This opportunity you funded (Sweet Treats) gave them a glimpse into what is possible when we work together and are supported by people and organizations like you!”

Funded Aug 2, 2023Thank you for funding "Looking Good, Feeling Great!"
Our students often come to school without the bare essentials, unfortunately. Necessities like deodorant and feminine hygiene products are of great necessity in our school. For middle schoolers, appearance is everything, and little things like chapstick, a pic, or a comb, make all the difference to fit in.
I keep these items in my office and students and teachers come by my room when they have a need because they know it will be met, thanks to you.
We sent many of our students home in the winter with care packages like hats, gloves, and toothbrushes, specifically for those who live in shelters or are displaced.
These items have come in handy for sweaty kids after gym class as we don't have locker rooms in our school. When you have gym at 8:30 a.m., the last thing you want to do is go to class all sweaty.
Thank you for meeting this need in our school that gives everyone an opportunity to look good and feel great!”

Funded Apr 6, 2023Thank you for your generous contribution to our school.
Together with my students, we have created beautiful monthly bulletin boards that mirror our students' backgrounds, cultures, and ancestors. Daily affirmation signs that read, "You are worthy." "You matter.", "BlackLivesMatter.", "You are your ancestors' wildest dreams." and many more flood our hallways and classrooms.
Our students have told us they feel our school does an excellent job of honoring and affirming their identities more than in any other school.
Now we can easily and frequently update bulletin boards and classrooms beautifying our spaces.
We are forever grateful for this gift that keeps on giving, month after month and we hope, year after year.”

Funded Jan 19, 2024My eighth grade class and I thank you for your generous donation to a fun and engaging way of learning.
We used the kit to prepare for state testing. In the beginning of preparing for the tests, students were unmotivated and bored. Once we began using the kits and buzzers the students came alive. Not only were they excited but they wanted to answer questions correctly. This caused them to go back to the texts to find relevant evidence and, most importantly, worked in pairs and triads to test their answers before submitting them.
The level of engagement and collaboration exceeded all my expectations. The students loved it so much it became a weekly part of learning, well after state tests.
Friendly competition is good for the soul.”

Funded Feb 25, 2022The lighting kit and backdrops helped my students grow their confidence and take pride in themselves. Gone are the days of crooked smiles, closed eyes, & over shadowing of the beautiful dark skin of my students. This lighting kit allowed me to take my time with our senior class. Because of the lighting kit, I was able to find just the right lighting to make each of my students shine and as a result, more students than ever, were proud to display their cap & gown pictures throughout the building.”
