  • Practicing Pincer Grasps (Fine Motor)

    Funded Feb 12, 2022

Thank you so much for donating to my classroom. The "Fill it Up" fine motor jars are used daily by all students. The jars have become a staple task as the the kit contains two different type of pincer grasp materials to practice grasping a figure peg and different shaped buttons (i.e., heart, circle, square, star, etc.). Students enjoy the "fill it up" fine motor jars as each button is a different shape and each peg is a different color, which also allows children to practice expressively labeling colors and shapes. The materials keep the child's interest and is able to be completed as an individual task. Not only are the "fill it up" motor jars fun to use, the children are also grasping different shaped objects that increase strength in the hand for pre-writing.

Again, thank you donors for allowing me to provide the children with varied fine motor tasks in the classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rochelle

  • Sensory Exploration

    Funded Jan 10, 2022

Thank you for the generous donation to my classroom. Daily children within my classroom use the sensory tools provided during various times throughout the day. For some children, pop tubes are used during whole group instruction as fidget toys to keep children engaged and seated during the activity (as seen in picture). Additionally, sensory items such as kinetic sand with playdough tools are used for highly reinforcing trade ins after completion of work as well as during sensory play that occurs daily. Overall, these materials provided have given children within my classroom the opportunity to explore various textures and provide sensory input they seek.”

  • Sensory Learning

    Funded Apr 12, 2021

Thank you so much for the sensory tables and sensory water beads and moon sand. My children LOVE it! The sensory table has by far been the biggest hit in the classroom thus far. All children have been exploring the sensory tables daily. Children who are working on expanding, exploring and tolerating a variety of sensory items.

Having two sensory tables within the classroom has allowed me to have two different types of sensory items present in the classroom. Some children may be working on tolerating different type of sensory items, therefore having two tables allows me to provide exposure to two items rather than one item weekly.

The sensory tables have also promoted a lot more language within the classroom. Children are working on turn taking, ending a preferred activity as well as requesting to play with the sensory table items.

The moon sand and water beads have been a blast to play with. I appreciate all the Donors helping me by providing more opportunities for sensory play within my classroom.”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rochelle

  • Flex Seating

    Funded Dec 3, 2020

My students love their new classroom seating! The colorful circle spots and orange bounce chairs have been a wonderful addition to the classroom. When it is time for circle or whole group instruction, some children find a color circle to sit on while others use the bounce chairs that have difficulty sitting.

The bounce chairs allow children who have difficulty sitting for a period of time bounce while sitting, providing them sensory input. The bounce chairs have increased the duration some students sit at whole group instruction by using the bounce chairs.

Some children within the classroom who have acquired a longer period of time of attending/sitting, sit on the colorful circle spots. The circle spots provide a confined space to sit on the ground.

I am so grateful for DonorsChoose; thank you for supporting my classroom!”

  • Sensory and Fine Motor Fun

    Funded Jan 29, 2021

Thank you for donating and providing materials for my classroom. My students love the sensory mats and circles! Daily, children interact with the sensory mats and circles that provide different textures and sensory input. The sensory mats and circles are available to all children throughout the day. Some children earn playtime with the sensory mats and circles where other children are being exposed to textures that are not preferred . Textures of the mats and circles vary and has been used to help children who have tactile sensory difficulties. The sensory mats and circles are plastic and easily washed daily, which has been ideal this year during the pandemic.

Additionally, children have been using the nuts and bolts during dedicated fine motor time within the classroom. The nuts and bolts allow children to learn the function of twisting on and off which is a skill that is used for many daily living tasks such as opening a door or water bottle cap. The nuts and bolts are also targeting color matching and the nuts and bolts are different colors.

My sincerest thanks to you all for your generous donations. We use these materials daily and grateful for DonorsChoose and the kindness of others. We are so appreciative; thank you for supporting my classroom!”

  • Flexible Seating for Preschool

    Funded Mar 9, 2020

My students love their new classroom seating! One student immediately set all the chairs up together in the middle of the classroom floor, testing out each one and jumping for joy! When it is time for circle, all students find a color they like to sit on. This allows students to make a choice of a color chair as well as begin to become independent in the classroom.

The seats are perfect for when students need a confined space to sit. Within inclusion classrooms, students sit on around the rug facing the teacher. Students in my classroom have difficulty sitting on the floor appropriately. These seats allow students to recognize the space he/she has to sit and mimics a chair low to the ground. The seats mirror students in the inclusion classrooms that are sitting on the rug. These seats are a great accommodation for my students that are learning how to sit at circle.

My sincerest thanks to you all for your generous donations. We use these seats every single day and they have really improved my students' attention during group activities on the rug. I've had several coworkers come into my classroom and comment on how cool they are. In these instances, I always make a point of mentioning how much I love DonorsChoose and how grateful I am for the kindness of others. We are so appreciative; thank you for supporting my classroom!”

    With gratitude,

    Ms. Rochelle

Students within my classroom are three to five years of age. Developmentally at this age, it is appropriate for children to practice sitting on the floor to help core strength and increase engagement. Currently, I use wooden chairs in my classroom during circle, yet inclusion classrooms within my school have students sitting on the floor. My students have difficulty generalizing skills within various environments. It would be beneficial for my students to practice this skill of sitting on the floor within my classroom prior to being included to be successful. These comfy floor seats allow students to have structure with the backing of the chair, yet be on the floor, which research shows it most appropriate. Across the school day, we incorporate a variety of learning strategies. Alternative seating will help to ensure that each student's physical needs are met through floor chairs that have support.
