Carpet Time = Learning Time
Funded Oct 27, 2022Having a carpet in the classroom has allowed my students to learn freely. Before having the carpet they had to stay at their desk while working or move their chairs to participate in our board work. Now, they are able to relax while they read, and sit on the carpet while following through a lesson.
When students walked into the classroom they were excited and immediately chose their color square they always sit on. Now, when they enter the classroom they know we start our session on the carpet before moving to desks. And when they finish their desk work, they know they can go to the carpet to read or play a literacy game.”

Funded Dec 16, 2021Winter in Chicago can be brutal and many of my students did not have the basic accessories to make it through the season. Receiving the hats, gloves and scarves was a blessing to be able to ensure students stayed warm and safe from the bitter cold.
In addition to the winter weather gear, receiving the sanitary pads, deodorant, and snacks allowed me to be a blessing to students throughout the school. Young girls do not have to worry about not having sanitary pads when needed, and both boys and girls have been able to have access to deodorant for the days they may forget to put it on, or if they just don't have any at home.
The snacks have proved a hit with my students as they serve as snacks for days they are hungry, are helpful for my students who are diabetic and need sugar or as incentives for classroom attendance challenges.
My students have benefited from the plethora of items received through this project and we are very thankful for all who contributed.”

Funded Dec 11, 2021The beginning of the year has us working toward understanding main and central idea, text structures and other concepts related to reading comprehension. Once we have a grasp of the basic concepts we move into novel studies to help us practice and work toward mastery of reading concepts using one text.
Every year I like to introduce new text to my students in hopes that they will enjoy reading as much as I do. Receiving the class set of The Giver has done just that. My students enjoy reading and look forward to what is to come next with the characters.
Many of my students read only because they have to for class, but after introducing them to Roll of Thunder, Hear My Cry they have shown interest in reading similar texts and have become vested in the lives of the characters.
It has been awesome seeing my students read and actually enjoy it!”

Funded May 4, 2021Your generosity allowed my in-person students to add a little color to their work and our classroom. We began learning utilizing a hybrid model which allowed some of my scholars to use the materials you help supply our room with. The ink allowed us to not only print assignments, but students to print their work in color.
We spent a lot of time focusing on SEL (because of the pandemic), so students created posters and other artwork to express themselves. Having the colored printing paper and ink allowed their work to come alive and convey their feelings through artistic expression.
Using the colored paper allowed students to show their individuality when completing exit tickets, their morning do now, and general assignments. Going into the new year, I will be able to start the year with fun and colorful printed materials for my students to utilize throughout the year.”

Funded May 6, 2020I am excited to give you thanks for supporting my classroom. The items received for my class will help tremendously when we return to the classroom. With Covid-19 and Cold and Flue seasons, we have enough materials so that students will not have to share highlighters, glue, or color pencils. The tissues and sanitizer wipes will help us stay clean sanitary, while in the classroom and limit our need to leave the classroom to go to the restroom for tissue.
I have been able to make individual student packages so that everyone has their own materials to keep at their desk. Again, thank you for your generosity and contributing to the continued safety of my students.
You are appreciated,
Mrs. W.”

Funded Sep 23, 2019Due to your generosity, my students and I have been able to maintain an organized and comfortable classroom. The plastic stools give students an additional seating options when working independently or in small groups. The 10-Drawer organizer cart gives my students ownership of their work. We use the organizer to keep track of students completed classwork that needs to be returned, work that needs to be redone, or missing work for absent students. We use the expanding file folder to keep track of individual student work that is kept in the class to be given to parents during conferences. I use the teacher stamps when grading student work to give students encouragement, and/or feedback, as well as requesting a parent signature.
Students enjoyed helping me open the boxes and constructing the drawer organizer. When students removed the stools from the box, they were excited to arrange them in the class for easy access when ready to use. They have enjoyed seeing the stamps on their returned work and smile when they see their work posted on the walls with the stamps letting them know they have done an awesome or excellent job.
The items your donation helped purchase will be used for several years to come, so not only will my current students benefit, but future students as well. For that, I am thankful you chose to donate to my classroom.”

Funded Jan 6, 2019Having the text and radio/headphones for a listening station has helped improve my students reading and comprehension. Having the ability to listen to stories as they follow along with the text has strengthened their tracking while showing an improvement in their ability to identify beginning and medial sounds.
Many of my students struggled with blending. Listening to the stories has also given them a better foundation with understanding different phonemes and how they are used to create sounds (words).
After listening to and following along with a text, students complete listening logs. Doing so, has helped with improvement in writing and gives students an opportunity to work on comprehension skills through answering questions. Students have shown improvement with skills such as identifying characters, settings, author's purpose, and problem and solution.”

Literacy growth with Tablets!
Funded Mar 14, 2018Thank you for your donation to our class project. My students receiving the tablets has been very helpful for them to complete online learning projects. I have a diverse learner population who needs extra supports, and having the tablets has afforded me the opportunity to continue their learning when they are not with me in small groups.
We have several learning platforms that students are now able to access daily to support their Reading and Writing. Being able to use the tablets keep students engaged because they are able to access sites and applications that bring stories to life.
Having the tablets in class has allowed students to maintain engagement with the Reading assignments beyond the time they would normally show engagement.
I am grateful for your donations and appreciate your generosity. My students and I thank you.”

Delivering Quality Stories and Images In Full Color!
Funded Oct 30, 2015your generosity toward helping my classroom project get funded has allowed my students to create posters, book covers, and simple art work in color. Having a printer in the classroom allows my students and I to print classroom assignments without having to wait for the school printer, as well as pictures, in color, to show our families the awesome, hands-on learning going on in our classroom.
My students love seeing their work in living color. Most of the copied materials they use are printed in black ink, so for them to be able to see their work printed from the computer in color makes them excited.
Everyone in the class loves project based learning, and they enjoy presenting/sharing with others what they have learned. One particular event during Black History Month, my class recited the poem, I, Too Sing America by Langston Hughes. The day before the performance one of my students asked if we could print a picture of Langston Hughes so everyone could see what he looked like. He was excited to find and print a color photo to share with everyone the author of the poem.
Having the color printer allowed us to research and find a photo in a short period of time. And that made my student excited that he was able to do it himself (with a little assistance from me).”

Interactive Literacy & Math With Tablets
Funded Aug 4, 2014My First grade students and I can not thank you enough for donating to our project. From the first day we received the tablets they have been in use. My students are able to play math games where they can work together solving problems, or quiz one another to help build their number sense. They also use them daily to read books and use apps that help with their foundational skills to build their reading comprehension. My students are able to watch videos that supplement their Science and Social Studies lessons.
When I told my students that the tablets were donated, they asked why did people who did not know us want to help us. I smiled and told them that their are people in the world who want to make sure everyone succeeds and helping us get the tablets was your way of making sure we succeed. After telling them that, they decided they wanted to do something for someone else, so we are in the process of deciding on a project to donate to.
Again, thank you for your donation. Having the tablets in the classroom really helps keep my students engaged in their learning. We appreciate you!”
