These materials are to furnish and fully maximize the learning of special needs pre-k children. The children are aged 3-5 years and have varying levels of skills.
As we head back into the classroom, the children will learn pre-academic skills in the areas of math, literacy, science, social/emotional, daily living/functional, gross motor (large movement) and fine motor (smaller movements such as cutting and writing).
The wooden unit blocks are used not only to build structures, but they are also cut into shapes such as squares, rectangles, semi-circles, cylinders, etc. My students are still learning their shapes and the blocks help them learn the shapes through play. The LED activity tablet will replace an old lightbox in our Science center. The light does not work well and the students will use the lighted tablet to study items in upcoming units such as leaves, insects/arachnids, sand, and shells. The composition books will be dedicated journals for my students. I'll use the journals to monitor drawings and other such works all in one place for each student. The Squigz are fun fine motor manipulatives for students to work on their fine motor functions. The Squigz attach to surfaces easily with suction cup-like grips and the individual needs to really grasp the Squigz to pull them off. Lastly, the sand timers are for social/emotional regulation in relation to time. When a timer runs out, it is visual cue to everyone time is up and for the student whose turn is over, to learn how to regulate their emotions and give others a turn at a preferred activity.
