Digital Math: iPads in the Classroom
Funded Mar 27, 2018It is because of your generosity that I've heard students say, "These are for us?!" "Look what I did, Ms. Radja!" "Can we use the iPads today?!"
They elicit excitement, curiosity, engagement, and wonder. I have begun implementing their use with my intervention math groups and will soon use them in my 7th and 8th grade math classes as well.
Student have been able to get math practice at their own level and pace. They've looked up definitions for math vocabulary. They've watched Khan Academy videos. They've recorded their own videos! The options are endless.
The most staggering difference I have seen is in children that are reluctant math learners. The adaptive technology takes away the pressure of making mistakes or the confinement of working slower (or faster!) than everyone else.
For all these reasons and more, we thank you!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Radja

Funded Apr 8, 2014All of the shiny new headphones arrived over Spring Break, so I made sure to head into school one day to unpack them all so they'd be ready when the students got back from break. On that first day back, as students walked into the room, I saw their eyes dart to the bins that house the headphones. I got a lot of, "Where did those come from?!" and "Are those for us?!"
We began using them that day. I assigned different science activities for students to complete online and students logged on to their Chromebooks. I had my low readers reading a passage about ecosystems with a narrator reading the passage aloud. Other students were able to pull up a youtube video and analyze different ways ecosystems were impacted. My coteacher and I were each able to pull small groups to work with, while the rest of class was able to complete their work independently.
Just like that, we had a completely different dynamic in the room in which every single student was engaged. After that independent and small group work, students were able to come to the group discussion with something they had learned during their work time. Class has never run so smoothly! I can't thank you enough for your generous contributions to my students and our classroom. Can't wait to plan how we'll be able to use them next year!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Radja
