  • Makin' it Move with Makey Makey!

    Funded May 24, 2024

Thank you for the funds to enable us to purchase Makey Makey kits. Students are learning how to code inanimate objects to respond to a stimuli. In doing so, they have to use critical thinking skills to backwards plan. For example, they have to plan step by step to determine how they will create a buzzing sound if a certain number is selected, or they have to program a certain sound when a particular piano key is tapped. Each colored alligator claw from the Makey Makey kit is attached to a specific object, assigning a very specific response. A lot of processing thought and teamwork goes into that and students are lerning to rely on the strengths of their partners for support, just like in the career world! It is my hope that I inspire my students to consider careers in STEM when they become adults, and using these kinds of tools make it more real for them because my students are doing hands-on learning. Thank you for the purchase of these kits to make coding a possbility for my students!”

  • Spelling Alive Part II

    Funded Dec 31, 2023

Thank you so much for the Secret Stories flash cards. My students like to "play" teacher and hold them in their hands as we practice the blends and vowel teams. These colorful flash cards make it fun for students to learn by singing and chanting . Again, thank you for your support helping our students read!

When administrative visitors come into the room, our students are eager to point to the cards that have supported their reading. Students will initiate conversations to demonstrate how the cards have been helpful to help them recall spelling sounds and patterns.”

  • Light It Up! Part I

    Funded Nov 19, 2023

Thank you so much for the generous donations of copper tape and LED sticker lights to support my students in learning about closed circuits. They learned to connect a battery source to a circuit to a light source in a paper design of their choice. They also powered a simple motor using the materials you generous donated. My lower elementary students now feel confident in explaining open and closed circuits to adults and can teach little kids about circuits! Their growing confidence led them to help run a circuitry booth at our local STEAM Night!

It is my hope that doing fun STEAM based lessons like these inspire my students to consider future careers in STEAM, and for them to become an active member of a problem-solving community.

Thank you again for your support!”

  • Light It Up! Part III

    Funded Sep 17, 2023

Thank you for the lithium batteries requested for projects! Because of these batteries, students are able to learn about closed circuitry! We've used the batteries to power paper ciructuits where students had to light up a drawing on paper. In this case, students made teepees light up as part of our Social Studies-Science unit. We've also used the batteries to light up simple motorized vehicles. It was exciting to see their joy of success! This was the missing link in learning about closed circuits due to our lack of supplies! Without the batteries, students would not have been able to understand and experience closed circuits! It is my hope that these STEAM-based experiences will inspire them to pursue jobs and interest in the future. Thank you again for your support of STEAM -based projects!”

  • Spelling Alive

    Funded Aug 12, 2023

Thank you so much for the Spelling Alive letter cards! My intervention students are learning songs and chants for the letter partners which makes it easier to remember the sounds. Students are learning the differences between vowel teams, digraphs and dipthongs. They are slowly but surely applying this new knowledge to their every day reading as their reading influency improves.

We use the letter cards daily so the concepts are cemented into our students' brains. I delight in hearing my students saying these chants on the yard and teaching them to friends! Parents have also shared that students are chanting at home!

I'm proud of seeing my students apply the new skills to their reading. What's great is that they recognize their own growth in reading! Their reading confidence is growing and students also say that they now like to read, thanks to the chants associated with the cards!”

  • From Shy Students to Reader-Leaders !

    Funded Sep 22, 2022

Thank you for the resource books I am using to inform my instruction. I'm learning to provide multi sensory lessons , reviewing previous lessons, and providing multiple opportunities for students to lead. Students are benefitting from my new knowledge as I'm improving my instructional delivery from the new knowledge I have gained from the books. My colleagues have greatly benefited from the materials as well! My colleagues and I have shared lesson plans and strategies to improve our teaching of the foundational skills.”

  • Reading Power Superheros!

    Funded Nov 27, 2021

Thank you so much for the Teachers Pay Teacher (TPT) gift card! It was used to purchase English Language Arts activities to be used through our student ipads. Students are able to collaborate on assignments using their ipads. We also save paper, and students find it fun to use a different platform, compared to the traditional pencil and paper route, to complete assignments.

On their devices, my students use the Skies app for the TPT lessons to move objects around, fill in the blank, and submit photos or images as needed for assignments. Students are having fun annotating the TPT assignments using these features on their ipads.

In particular, my very quiet students are interacting more using these features. They are more engaged because they are using technology completing fun TPT lessosn using a device. They are completing assignments without my prompting, which was more difficult when it was being done on paper and pencil.”

  • My Superpower is Reading!

    Funded Jan 13, 2022

Thank you very much for the new blending cards, blending games, and white boards. Students love blending using the picture cards. They are sounding them out and feel so proud when they are reading! Students are also spelling words on the new white boards. Your gifts have made such an improvement in bringing joy to learning.

Students are making sentences using the sentence game you gave us. We will be reading in our decodables and moving onto sentence writing using the white boards.

Thank you again for helping my students improving their reading superpower!”

  • STEAM AHEAD With DASH ROBOTS!

    Funded Nov 9, 2021

Technology is new at my school and my students were only using the ipad for processing work, classroom apps, and watching youtube! Now, thanks to you, my students are using the ipad to program Dash robots you helped us purchase! My students love learning how to them using the Blockly app. Students are learning how to sequence directions for movements and how to input those directions via block coding. Soon, they will showcase the coordinated robots to music schoolwide. Our next step is that I will train my students to mentor or train other students how to code and program Dash. Thank you again for the sweet blessing of robots!”

Argh! The light bulb on our digital projector has finally been put to rest and I can't present my digital lessons! How are my students going to view my power points in Math, how will my students follow live programs, such as the space shuttle trip to Los Angeles, or how will I take them on an electronic field trip to Colonial Williamsburg?
