Making Middle School Math FUN and Meaningful
Funded Jul 8, 2022My students have loved using the resources we received from this project. As they finish math work, they get excited to pull out a math extension activity. We began the year by having small groups of students choose a game, become an expert on it, and write up a one page explanation of key information. They presented to the class and we created a resource so they could find math games during the year that fit the time, number of players, and interests they had. They love having engaging activities to do as time fillers.
The other resources, including the small desk and stools, are being used to support students in a small group area. This allows me to invite students to the work space to give them extra support and go over materials. Having this designated space makes our classroom feel organized and gives students a base for easy access to teacher support.
I love being able to provide a classroom environment where kids feel at home and happy to be here. Your donations have allowed me to further that. My students and I are truly grateful for your support!”

Funded Jul 8, 2018Thank you so much for contributing to our project. These items have made such a positive difference in our learning environment. This is the first time that my students have had access to alternative seating and the impact has been huge. The exercise balls and wobble stools have given students the ability to move and release extra energy so that they can focus on learning. The tractor seat also allows for easy use around the classroom. And several students use the noise canceling headphones on a regular basis to tune out classroom noises and keep focused on their tasks.
When the students entered our classroom on the first day of school, they were met with a variety of new, colorful seating options at the front of the room. After teaching about uses and expectations for each seating option, I gave the students opportunities to try out different seating choices. It was such a great experience to watch them take this so seriously. They really put thought into whether each type of seat helped or hindered their learning. Through trial and error, over the next few weeks, students figured out what worked best for them. I saw the biggest effect with some of my students on IEPs and those with high energy. The ability to move their bodies really boosted their focus.
I asked the students what they would like to tell our donors about how this project has impacted our classroom. One student said, "Sometimes kids get bored and now we have options. It helps us move and be focused in a fun way." Another student added, "When you want to move around a little, the balls and wobble stools let you." And a third student commented on the addition of our noise canceling headphones by saying, "Whenever we need quiet, we use them and they help us focus." The students all agreed that the project really made learning easier and fun. We are so grateful for your support to help make our classroom the best possible environment for learning.”
