  • Journalism Supply Wish List

    Funded Nov 24, 2014

Our students are so grateful for the supplies you have sent us. We have been using the backpacks to carry our cameras. Not only are these better for carrying our cameras because They are large and offer protection, but they sling on the backs, so kids can use both hands to handle the cameras and still have their equipment close at hand. We also have our lens covers which will help students filter light properly.

We now also have enough camera cards to make sure that kids can save their photos and keep their own cards for the week of coverage.

In addition, we now have a wonderful label maker so we can claim all our equipment properly, making sure our things are not lost and borrowed without being returned.

We greatly appreciate the support of our program.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Peyton

  • Publication of News Magazine

    Funded Mar 3, 2014

Thank you for your kind support. Our class has been using the supplies you provided to advertise our newsmagazine and our yearbook. We have already advertised "Duct tape Kwami" and the yearbook. We will also be advertising the yearbook and our next Open Mic Night.

Without out these materials our sales and fundraising would not be possible. The kids have prepared colorful posters that draw the attention to the yearbook and newsmagazine and have increased our readership. Kids will continue to use these products for sales throughout the summer and into the year. This helps support our $95,000 yearbook contract.”

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Peyton

  • Publishing of a News Magazine

    Funded Feb 3, 2014

We have had our new Cannon Rebel Ti3 camera for about 10 days now. Students have already been using it to take pictures for the February and March editions.

In previous years, students downloaded pictures from the Internet instead of taking their own photographs. This year, students are traveling the hallways photographing student life, and helping illustrate their stories through their original photographs.

Through your support, our news magazine (available online) is colorful and vibrant! You can view the latest edition here:

    With gratitude,

    Mrs. Peyton

I have 90 students ranging from 14 to 18. They are emerging journalists. I have a very difficult course, which studies Journalism as a curriculum and puts out a 12-16 page paper each month. We also have a yearbook staff that produces a 305 page book each year. This year's particular focus is to photograph the community and events as they occur. With 90 students and only 5 cameras, only a few students can photograph at a time. With a school of 3000 students, we need as many students with cameras as possible.
