Funded Oct 9, 2019Thank you so much for the new technology donated for our classroom! These laptops/tablets have been a great asset to us. I use technology on a daily basis and students love it! My students come in in the mornings and like to research random things we have learned about in class. For example, a few weeks ago we learned about polar bears in the Arctic. A few days after that lesson, I saw a few students crowding around one of the laptops that were donated (thanks to you all). When I approached them to observe what they were doing, they had been researching the best places in the Arctic for polar bears to live. They were looking at pictures, reading about them, and even discussing all the new things they had learned.
We have also used the materials for STEM lessons. STEM is big at my school and since we are trying to get designated, we are trying to improve how technology is used. I have the students use the laptops/tablets to record data, take pictures, film, and even look up alternate methods to build things. This year we did a class Science project for the district and the laptops were right there to experience it with us!
Furthermore, the technology has even helped me with unexpected situations. This week I got a new student in from Panama. He does not speak any English and although I have my endorsement in ESOL and lots of experience with ELLs, technology has a great impact on their learning. Whenever he finishes up his work, he immediately grabs the tablet and logs on to an English learning app I have purchased. In just one week he has learned both his letters and sounds!”
With gratitude,
Ms. Castilla
